MPG

Ive got a 2007 SE. Its done nearly 8,000 miles. I am steady eddie and I dont get in a lot of early morning traffic. I am consistently averaging 30 mpg. The run to clacton today I was showing 34 mpg. I do drive it like a bentley as the pilot sitting next to me gets car sick if she has to bank around a corner. I do think this is pretty impressive either that or the clock is wrong. If you take your foot offf the gas it amazing what you can get out of it.

Must confess, I play a bit of a game with the computer - on the basis that it calculates the average mileage from one reset to another. If I drive ever so gently just after filling up (and re-setting the trip), I can get silly figures, in excess of 40. So - I build up a healthy average - which is less influenced by driving technique the more miles you have done - and then thrash it for the last quarter tank - and still end up with 29/30 mpg!!
I was taught to be cautious.

30 - 34 MPG Shocked mine rarely changes, I am either on Mway, towing or needing to get somewhere. I don't usually see an increase on 25mpg ish....

Lot of country roads and towns, no motorway miles and im getting 27mpg. On a long trip its close to 30, If i can use cars in front to "slip stream" I can nudge over the 30mpg. I seldom cruise at less than 55, my disco has done 50k, im well pleased with this so far. Our defender td5 is doing low to mid 20's, my shogun swb 3.2 did's would do no more than 28mpg, and my X5 i chopped in for the disco would struggle to get above 21mpg in everday use! it was the base model 3.0i petrol, and was nearly half a ton lighter than the disco! Another area where discos rule!

How about we have a silly competition here, see who can get the silliest mpg figures and photgraph them!? both high and low! I suggest pulling over before you photo them!!! Laughing

34mpg... Bow down Nice 1! Having mine torq tuned tomorrow so will be interesting to see how that affects it.

I think mine doesn't work properly Confused

I'm not an aggresive driver, don't leave it too late to brake, but never get more than 19 around town or 26 on a long journey.

So I am confused.....

I did a return motorway trip today, traffic conditions equally poor either way so spent 90% of time at 60 to 70 and 10% in slow, stop start. Overal trip was 120 miles each way.

Meter was reset before setting out.

Outward --- 37mpg (I was pretty happy with this)
Return --- 32 mpg

I cannot vouch for the conditions being exactly the same but they were pretty close.

Also the meter does not seem to give a true average since the last reset. For example, if I drive 100 miles on mway and get 35mpg then do 5 miles in town traffic then the mpg drops down to closer to 30. It is as if it is a sliding average. Does it only work if you reset on a full tank or something ?
