Coil packs 4.4 v8
Hello all
I have a 4.4 Aj V8
Do any of you know which coil packs should I buy. I was thinking Delphi or Lucas they cost around £45 but the Lemark ones are only £25 ish
I have several misfires which I'm praying are due to coils and not valves ! ( I have LPG )
I have changed the plugs and don't think there are any air leaks in the air inlet pipes
Cheers Will

You get what you pay for with these cars but genuine ones will be better can you change 1 at a time if you know which are missing to see if it cures that particular miss fire or change a coil pack around ie good with bad and see if miss fire moves Discovery 3 se gone

Yep assuming you know which cylinders ares misfiring swap the coil packs round to make sure they are the problem, it's what I did with mine. Buy decent ones.==================================

Hi Will,
Do you have a lube system on your LPG?

Just find out which are missing and try and move them around to see if it makes a difference rule them out first does it miss on both gas and petrol and what sort of mileage has yours done Discovery 3 se gone

I don't actually know as there is no history but I will try and look again at the mot history maybe it's on there somehow. I assume it's done a fair bit of its 160 k miles on gas.
I am going to swap the coils around tomorrow so I will let you know how that goes, fingers crossed it is a coil.
Thanks Will

Hello all
I have just plugged the disco in to diagnostics and had the following feedback
1 Ignition coil B primary/secondary circuit
2 cylinder 1 misfire
3 cylinder 2 misfire
4 cylinder 7 misfire
5 cylinder 8 misfire
6 random misfire
7 misfire on startup first 1000 revs
8 system too lean (bank 1)
I decided to number the cylinders myself as follows and then moved some of the coil packs but still had exactly the same fault reader feedback.
8 4
7 3
6 2
5 1
When standing at the front of the car and looking back towards front seats.
I swapped 3 and 1 = same diag readout I then swapped them back.
I then swapped 1 and 2 = same diag readout
I then cleared the codes and can't get any faults just says no faults. This will change once I have taken it for a drive as I can still feel it misfiring but until then I will have to wait to swap some more over. It is worth adding that I did randomly change a load of them over some time ago and still got the same diag readout as far as I remember (same cylinders anyway).
Thanks in advance for the use of your mighty collective brain power.
Will

That's doesn't sound too clever, think you might need to do some compression testing etc and be prepared for the worse! could be VSR or I believe some have found valves need adjusting.==================================

Agreed compression test is a good next step. Unfortunately they are prone to VSR (Valve Seat Regression) if run on LPG without a lube system. If you are able to solve this without needing a set of valves then I would get a lube system installed. Best of luck and hope you get it sorted

This is my fear but it is what it is. Finding the problem is key then I can do something about it.

Ok i thought it went 1-4 on left hand side and 5-8 was the right hand bank looking from the front of the car back towards the seats so you have a miss fire on 1&2 and 7&8 so 3&4 are good as well as 5&6o try swapping 1&2 with 3&4 to start before the compression testing begins Discovery 3 se gone

I didn't know order so I made one that would at least show where I had been but thanks the order is handy. I will do that asap but I need the car to register a fault as after clearing it takes a bit for them to show on diagnostics again.
