Had a 'D5' for the last couple of days ......

When asked when I dropped the 'D5' v6 loaner off what I thought - just said "Prefer mine'...... "your going to keep that forever aren't you?' they said..... So right...... I was so pleased to give the loaner back and get back into mine.

My D4 seemed so much smoother over bumps, quieter (engine). No strange rumbles (like some seat upholstery loose somewhere) and a higher driving position to name just a few. My wife didn't like it at all - felt too low down and 'pig ugly' was the words I think she used. Looks like a big bubble said my daughter and granddaughter.

So .... will stick with what I've got - and see if and what the Defender brings to the party... Thumbs Up

On the positive side, I’m really pleased to hear that the D4’s been such a hit Thumbs Up

Pleased to hear you are sticking with your D4! The 5 still hasn’t grown on me and I would far sooner keep repairing my D4.

Although having just had to buy my wife a new car (which looks like something Noddy would drive and is as much use), our D4 is here to stay.

I started off thinking the D5 was expensive. I am now coming to terms with parting with £55k plus simply because there is no other alternative.

The Disco Sport is Censored plus everyone and their dog has got one. The Ewok is a SWMBO car, so the choice is limited. Rolling Eyes

I would certainly agree about the choice being limited.

Very limited..... hence I cant see me selling the V8 for the next few years and or buying a LR product to replace it with.

Had the chat with the non sales guy at LR the other day. Told him the only LR car I would consider is an RRS SVR, and no I wasn't going to take one for a test drive. (I don't need or cant justify an 90k car)

Wife is driving an Ewok around at the moment whilst her business partner is on holiday (we look after her dog and car). Style over function (car that is not dog). DS was truly horrible when I drove one in 2015 so much so it made the Ewok seem a very nice car. (Ended up buying (in the old fashion sense) a PHEV). The PHEV is coming up to 3years old and I cant see me replacing this for sometime. Cost peanuts to run, doesn't go wrong. However it truly is a very unexciting car!

I think when it comes to replacing the V8 it will be with a Volvo XC90 T8.

New Evoque comes out next year on the new PTA platform which will allow hybrid tech as the current platform can’t. Supposed to be a bit bigger, with 10% increase in luggage space, it will also be the first LR product to have the see through bonnet.

The D5 is expensive, the price has gone up a fair bit since I got mine, but for me its still the best of the bunch.

The DS, well, I was very enthusiastic about the car at launch but once I took delivery that quickly changed, I’ve driven a few since then and my views on it haven’t changed, it’s awful, the worst car in the line up by far. But again it’s switching to the PTA platform which is said to improve ride comfort.

The Range Rover, is going too far upmarket, LR reckon they can take on the Bentayga and Cullinan. Quality and dealer experience will need to improve drastically to even get anywhere near Rolls Royce.

The RRS, is, for me anyway just that bit too far out of budget, so that leaves the Velar, despite my issues with it, it’s still my pick of the range. Since my issues I have been looking at other cars, but to be honest there is nothing out there that I would have, well perhaps a Rolls Royce Wraith, but unless someone on here has experience with bank jobs that ain’t going to happen.

It’s an odd thing that, although there’s little diffence in the height of the front seats between the D4, D5 and FF, I’d suggest that it’s the higher waistline/higher bonnet/smaller windowed nature of the D5 that makes it much more car like inside and feel lower than it is.

My Dad’s just paid £46k for an early-ish HSE Lux - some £20k less than lost price. At that kind of price I think I’m starting to get tempted!

I haven’t seen it yet but it’s a year since I had an HSE on loan and I was very underwhelmed back then. Maybe it’ll have grown on me!

Re: Had a 'D5' for the last couple of days ......

You know how it is when some people say that "it'll grow on you"? Especially the styling?

It's been 15 days now and around 1,600 miles so far in “my" D5. So, how long does this process take before I start to notice the effect? Rolling Eyes

I have started to notice that every D1, D2, D3, D4, Classic, P38a, L322 and L405 that I pass on the road is getting better and better looking every day though; is this how it's supposed to work? Wink
