Rear hub bush circlip
Hi all,
Having a nightmare with the rear bush circlip. All the manuals and advice on here just says "remove the circlip". But this thing is solid! I've bent the ends of 2 circlips, tried the blow torch and even resorted to weakening it with the dremel. But it is rusted solid!
Any advice or ideas to simply "remove the circlip"?!

A couple of good blows with a sharp chisel could do the trick?

It should! But I can't get enough swing room for the hammer for a good whack, the wishbones are in the way, the hub is seized on to the drive shaft (I've already broken a puller trying to get it off) and the cover for the park brake cable is stuck fast too. So I can only do the job in place as I can't get the hub off and put it on the bench!
You need a good heavy copper hammer on the drive shaft with the nut on, then with the park brake cable cut a slot down it and get some penetrating oil in the and use some gordon grips to free it from the back plate.
You will struggle to get the bush out on the car if you do not have the proper bush removal set and to renisert the new one, its a lot easier with hub assy off.

I had similar when I did mine a couple of months back - thought probably nowhere near as bad as yours sounds.
However I managed to get a dentist pick in the circlip gap and lever one side up - it was slow progress but with a decent rust penetrative and patience I got enough up to use a thin screwdriver to lever up an end I could get vise grips on to yank it out
After that pressing the old bush out and new one was a pleasure 😂I see no ships........

Thanks Flack and Spiderbaby!
The dentist pick is a great shout! Should have enough room with it on the car for a few dentist tools and screwdrivers for leverage
But if not, I'll try what Flack suggests, but with the hand brake cable - once I've cut a slot in it for the pentrating fluid, will it still be ok or will it need replacing?

Yes it will be fine, I have done a few this way over the years, just dont spread the cut to much, the cap will screw backon ok. If not you are in to chaning the whole back plate, not what you want to be doing.
When you cut the slot use gordon grips to twist the cable in the hole it will come out eventually .
