Smoking drivers side front wheel
Hi all, need a bit of advice,
While driving my 2007 D3 I started to get heavy shuddering on the steering wheel while cruising and breaking, it got to the point where I had to pull over at the most convenient place, when stopped the driver side front wheel was smoking, After 10mins or so I drove the remaining 6 miles home without incident (no shuddering) when parked up the drivers side front wheel alloy was VERY hot to the touch where the other wheels were warm but nothing out of the ordinary,
The pads were changed within the last few months (not the discs),
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance
Martyn

My bet would be binding brake caliper. Sounds like the “usual” symptoms. Possibly a jammed pad but I would bet caliper. Jarrod

As above.
Usually guide pins on the Caliper.. they need greasing.
There’s a trend these days with the cars that are regularly washed with a power washer at the local Wash’n’Wax.

Have the disk, pad and brake line checked, too. If it is steaming/smoking hot the brake disk can become warped (surface becomes uneven). I think a decent mechanic at a garage should check for these things but it might not hurt to explicitly say so.

Not unless you’ve got to and the brake warning light is not on, it will cost you new pads and disks if you do as they must be fitted in pairs even though you have recently changed them, it may already need them and a new calliper. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
