Expedition Rack - adding stronger base

Gents, any suggestions for a better "base" for the above? ie something additional to the cross bars to give a bit more strength.

sorry, not strength, I mean to make it easier to carry things - like some sort of lattice panel.

A sheet of light seaply, probably make it quieter as well

My (Tradesman ) rack has steel mesh, which makes it easier to tie to.

There's a thread on here somewhere describing what you want. 3mm chequer plate was an option I think.

A fair few in the UK added aly sheet to the expo rack for easier loading but it dont make it any quieter in fact I thought it was a fair bit noisier and the roof is a Censored to clean.

A strip can be added to the front this really does make it quiet but it can mark the roof

We did all this then brought Front runners Laughing

Rack was one of a miriad of LR extras fitted by previous owner ("A" Bar, spotties, DVD rood mounted, side steps, door protection moulding, Expedition rack and ladder, lamp guards, the list goes on forever!!!!!). He traded it after 19000kms on a Range Rover TDv8 Vogue. I took the rack off as car wont fit in my office car park but it will go back on for Big trips! I think its worth over $1500 in Oz.

If you want to sell it let me know. I am in the market for a roof rack, and will prolly make a decision on which one in the next couple of weeks. Wink

Hi Blackperth,

Have a query for you.

On another thread someone is asking if you need the roof rails for the expedition rack...?

I was told that it bolts directly to the mounting points on the roof - or maybe there is a choice of mounting options (ie direct or via rails??)...however, since you have apparently removed yours, I guess you should know...

Your comments would be appreciated.

All the best,

Andy

You must have the LR roof rails to fit the LR Expo rack.

BlackPerth,

To confirm - you do need the roof rails. But as for the base check out the details of the base I made in my gallery - read the description:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/displayima...os=-17960, and a picture:

LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
