D3 Tie Rod Torque ?
Hi,
I am looking to replace (myself) the Front Tie Rod and Tie Rod Ends on the 2005 D3, but am having difficulty determining the torque setting for the inner Tie Rod that bolts on to the Steering Gear.
These are the torque settings I have determined so far:
But I can't find the torque setting for the inner tie rod. Would be most grateful if someone could please point me in the right direction. Also, let me know if there is a comprehensive 'how to' for the work.
Thanks,

Istr it's 100nm but how you will be able to actually torque it I don't know as it's not like you can get a socket on it.Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi Bodsy,
Thanks for the reply.
I was going to use one of these special tools to get the tier rod nut on and off the steering gear.
The tool comes with open ended sockets which goes over the nut. You then attach the rod to the socket and a torque rachet to the rod to get the exact torque.
I read your reply to another post where you stated 100 Nm and I was going to go with that. I hav ea few long distance journeys coming up and want to make sure the tie rod is installed correctly.
Not that I doubt you, but is 100Nm the officially listed torque setting used by the dealers ? I am just puzzled as to why I could not find it listed anywhere ?
Many Thanks for your help.

For any one looking to do their Tie Rods on their D3 (and I guess D4), the above tool (which I purchased from Amazon) is perfect !!. I used the torque setting of 100Nm.
Good Luck !!

Hi,
I assume when you say ‘clip’, you mean the adapter that fits on to the knuckle of the tie-rod end. I took some pics of a spare rod to make sure we are referring to the same thing.
The internal width of the ‘clip’ is 1.5 inches (37mm) and it’s the one on the extreme right of the image above . It the widest one in the kit box.
Hope this helps. Remember to use 100N torque when tightening it again.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Manichauhan,
Thanks for the info! Yes, the thing you are showing to me is the "clip" I was talking about... Just checked our local retailer's website, the widest and the closest size is 1-7/16 inch, 36.5125 mm, which is slightly smaller... Could you please take a measure of the inner tie rod?
Thanks again!
