D3 Replacement Key Case/Rubber - which seller??
Guys,
I'd appreciate a little help. Just borrowed my wife's car to see that the key has worn through. So I went to swap the key out for the spare, which also has a hole worn through ('I swapped them ages ago because the other was worn out' she said - of course never mentioned it to me )
Can anyone anyone recommend a seller of the rubber key cases so I can transfer the gubbins.
Do I also change the batteries at the same time?
Apologies if there's a sticky on this but delighted if someone has time to point me at it. Flying off for work so wanted to order the parts to do the project when they arrive.
Thanks in advance and grateful for advice.PAGODA

It's not easy to get the old one apart I used a Dremel (carefully)

The batteries recharge when in the car so no need to routinely replace batteries

RRUK did the replacement of my D3 key fob and also fitted a new battery (keys are ~ 12 years old). The battery isn’t meant to be changed - unlike on D4 keys - so changing it involves soldering.
There is a thread/ad on his key replacement service on the Parts for sale forum with a bunch of very satisfied customers.
If you want to DIY to should be able to get the empty fob yourself from AliExpress (I did check it out), Advanced Factors sold them and, I think, so did Rimmer Bros. Instructions at https://disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpi...attery.pdf

I got a couple of replacement shells when i got my D3 but the bloody key doesnt stay locked in, it opens up in your pocket digging into your pants .
So be wary of cheap ebay shells.

I've had two new eBay cases recently (different sellers) for my FF key which I think is identical to the D3 key. On both the blade pivot is ever so slightly different and the shell doesn't close properly when you swap the wholr blade assembly over. I've fixed one with a bit of 'adjustment' but I may try removing the retaining pin on the other to see if I can swap only the blade itself and keep the new pivot.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Actually the last one I ordered was this one which was about as cheap as it gets: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Remote-Key-Shel...2749.l2649 and the quality is remarkably good. The problem I have seems to relate to the blade type. The ones I've ordered have a narrower blade whereas my key has a wide blade. I don't think this is specific to the FF, I'm pretty sure my D3 was also a wide blade.
Top is the original key (doctored to remove the profile) and below is the eBay "narrow" blade key.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Sorted. Using a small drift from a watchmaker's toolset, I removed the retaining pin from the key blade as described in this thread: https://disco3.co.uk/forum/fit-new-key-battery-134075.html. I had to file the top surface of the original blade very slightly where it engages into the slot in the new key pivot. Replaced the retaining pin and job done.
The result looks excellent - the new shell even has the logo. All for £3.30. I'm ordering another.
[Edit]And as per this thread, if you need the battery you can get those from CPC for about £4[/Edit]2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

thought i'd look if the seller had new style D4 cases but stopped searching his "other items" when this popped up. Good job SWMBO wasn't watching …. might have been hard to explain.
