Oxide layer on unswept part of windscreen
As per title. Its nearly 9 years old and around the edges of the screen have what I can only describe as an 'oxide' layer which no amount of scrubbing with commercial glass cleaner will remove. Anything I can use before I try the machine polisher?

I’ve used razor blades on other cars before now to good effect.

As TigerRecovery said.
Try wire wool but only Grade 0000 (four zeros).
Can be bought for pence.
Window cleaners trick. Works brilliantly on removing baked on bug mess.
I do it all the time.
Good for cleaning headlight glass also.
Use it dry and the wool will not rust and can be used over and over again.
