DG wrote:Yes, it was removed because the last time I looked, the life-cycle of a human was 'born, alive, alive, alive, alive, alive, dead'
If the latter sadly occurs, then fill your boots
“life-CYCLE”? Completing a cycle requires being born again. Although you may believe that.
Can I suggest “life-span”? 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Quote:life cycle
noun
the series of changes in the life of an organism including reproduction.
"the life cycle of gut parasites"
No inference should be taken that you are a gut parasite
Of course, the very egg and sperm that delivered you was constituent of atoms from the universe, which when drawing from nutrient sources also made from atoms, helped you grow up to be a big boy and perform your life cycle....it is entirely conceivable that when your living body expires and entropy returns you to the ultimate state of atoms then those atoms could go on to develop into ...lets say ....a gut parasite

Very impressive DG. I accept being part of the carbon and nitrogen cycles. But generally in biological terms a life cycle can not be depicted as shown by you as ending in death. It is as you say a “cycle” 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Well it is commonly referred to in that manner particularly in education, in fact a search reveals 3.5 million references to the phrase ..so please don't spend too much of your cycle worrying about it

Why don’t you leave this to professional biologists instead of googling and run along and sink your scolex into some other topic. You seem to be an expert in everything.
My original comment refers to the depiction of a life-cycle as a straight line instead of circular. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Not sure you have to be an expert to understand commonly used phrases in the context they are meant and used to teach millions of children in the UK. Perhaps biologists should lobby the government to correct this travesty.
Oh ..and you don't get to tell me to run along anywhere chap

Of course you do not have to be an expert. My point is that life cycles are illustrated by circular diagrams as depicts the concept of a cycle not a straight line which is less useful. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Look, I understand what you are saying and agree you could use 'life span' and scientifically it may be more accurate particularly if I was wearing a white coat ...but in my layman's defence, by definition, a cycle of anything does not have to be expressed as or represented by a circular action ..it can easily just be portrayed as a series of events.
I'm no expert, I looked this up in the dictionary wrote:
1.
a recurring period of time in which certain events or phenomena occur and reach completion or repeat themselves in a regular sequence
2.
a completed series of events that follows or is followed by another series of similar events occurring in the same sequence.
3.
the time taken or needed for one such series.
Surely it isn't difficult for any reasonable reader to understand that is what I meant.

There’s always room for more than one way to get a concept across. Now back to Sir Alex. Let’s hope that the care and attention he is getting will bring an improvement to his condition. Thoughts are with him and his family. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.
