Wheel Alignments

Hi gang.. my Disco 3 goes in for a 24K service on Tuesday. I have asked the dealer to give it a wheel alignment in an attempt to stretch out the tyre life a bit more. (Cooper tell me they will have AT2 tyres by June that will suit)

Anyhow, that started me thinking.. can any tyre shop align the Discovery 3? Or do you have to do back to the dealer after your new tyres are fittid?

Cheers

Hi Mark,
AFAIK, the LR mechanics have to hook up the beast to put it into alignment mode. Then they hand it over to the wheel alignment shop, have it done, and then hand it back to LR mechanics.

I had a clunk in my front end which I reported during the 24000km service - and they later did a wheel alignment - gratis - as a part of replacing he ball joints.

Good luck in making it to June with those Goodyear Manglers...

Cheers,
Rob

I had mine done by a Bridgestone tyre shop, fixed my tyre wear problems at a fraction of the dealer cost.

AFAIK the computer setting is only required if bushes have been replaced and the front end has been dismantled in some way. I stand to be corrected though.

My car received an alignment from an LR approved suspension specialist following an accident last year. The "suspension specialist" tried twice to do it but could'nt get the geometry right and it was left up to me to book it in to LR to have it done. LR confirmed at the time that they had to put the vehicle in alignment mode etc before the alignment could be done. Regardless, it cost me $220 just for the alignment Shocked , but 10k later and wear is even so probably worth the effort. BTW, managed to sort out the wrangler wear "noise" issue by "spinning" the tyres on the rims in the rear. Noise definitely improved but is still noticeable to the trained ear...

For the record, done 29k now in the OEM wranglers in 2 years and still look like I'll get about 15-20k more Shocked Perhaps I'm not driving hard enough Twisted Evil

AFAIK it is a fairly complicated procedure to w/align the air bag D3s
The Beaurepairs dealer in Cains (the one recommended by LR)
wouldnt do mine on a Saturday morning untill
he found out it was a cioler. He said it was to time comsuming
and to bring it back thru the week.
Something about having to "tie" the car down

The price you paid for alignment.. $220 sounds a bit high. Austral land Rover quoted me $70.

Anyhow, it goes in tomorrow so we'll see what happens.

I owned a tyre service for ten years and a
Wheel alignment shouldnt cost any
more than $75 to do both ends.
If you can , find out which tyre service your LR dealer is
using and take it directly to them
LR is tripling the price they are charged

LR dealer quoted me 4 hrs to do job Shocked , however only charged me for 2.5 cause they felt obligated not to rip me off too much... Crying or Very sad (or some words along these lines, either way still got ripped off)

BTW
Milestone 100 whoo hooo...

Well.. dropped the Disco3 into Australs this morning and the $75 wheel alignment turned into a $130 alignment. When I mentioned the quote on the phone, it came back down to $75.

They have loaned me a RR Sport diesel.

Can't say that I like it.

I wonder why you would pay so much more for a chopped D3?

Cheers

It was obviously not a TDV8. They have so much grunt it's not funny + the dynamic response make one hell of a machine.
The TDV6 Sport is simply the most awesome car I have driven.

I guess the RR Sport is an awsome hard charger.. but i find the ride rough and the cabin very "tight" after the D3.

I guess each to his own...

Hi Guys, When the tyre specilsit fitted the Coopers they did a full alignment. The Dealer is insisting that they redo it becasue the dealer could not have put it into the alignemtnsuspension setting mode. So completley agree with previous commetns to that effect.

Cheers

I thought the dealer readied it for the geometry to be set prior to the wheel alignment. once the geometry is set then wheel alingment can be done by anyone. Question

Norto, it is a airbager.

Catweesel, yup i think that it can be done by anyone, once it's been set into alignment mode, but not driven too far as its above the 'normal' drive height.
