System updates/Programming questions |
|
So this may be some dumb question and i have searched but could not find what i was looking for.
So I've been seeing that there is programming updates etc. for the system. Examples are, upgrading to a AMK compressor from the old Hitachi ones and requiring a system update or the reprogramming to get the clock on the gauge cluster. Well seeing as I'm not going to my indie every time I need work done because I'm planning on doing a lot my own.
So here is the questions:
1. Are these updates something only the dealer or indie mech can do?
2. Will the GAP IID tool be able to do these system updates?
3. If not is there another way to accomplish these updates with out having to shell out $$ every time there is an update to be preformed or if I upgrade something that is required?
4. What are the differences between the system updates and system reprogramming?
This all so confusing
Thanks for any held in understanding.

In this case they’re really the same thing with different names
IID will allow flashing of compressor specific firmware. It’ll also let you upgrade the IPC to get the clock on the instrument cluster LCD and BCM for three blink turn signal. Besides these, it’s possible to get a bunch of other updates, too and then there is the FastLane service that they have (never used but you get a hand selected image for a particular subsystem).
That being said answers to your questions:
1. No
2. Yes, as above
3. Another OBD2 tool
4. I think that, besides what I call flashing and some people uploading/upgrading of firmware, you mean editing of car configuration file (CCF). Editing CCF is the place where some features can be either enabled or disabled. IID does that, too.

Ok, so if i buy the GAP tool which i plan on. I can pretty much do anything (computer related) to the landie as the dealership?
I know its a great piece of kit, from others on here, but seems like it is not just a great item to have but more of a necessity.
I think my wife will prob divorce me over my D3!
But seriously i love this thing it just seems I've jumped into Alices' rabbit hole!
There is so much to learn. And trying to do that with out going broke!
Thanks Kajtzu

I would suggest you look at the IID in a different way (this is how I sold it to her indoors)
It allows me to test all of the systems on the car and ensure it is fully safe and tells me if there are problems brewing
And if I ever sell it in the future I will only loose around £100 between what they sell for used and what it costs new
It also helped that I explained if we bought one I wouldn't need to pay £100 per visit to have codes read by someone else Must stop buying shiny toys....

Point taken.
Makes sense and a very true statement I'm sure.
I've only had mine for a month now and already working on tie rods, track bar bushings and links.
Then tires and alignment.
And just had the "fuel cap loose or missing" pop up and engine light came on.
Oh and swollen lug nuts.
So needless to say I'm invested now!
