Excessive Rear Tyre Wear
Hi there.
Last year when my 2005 HSE Diesel went in for service and mot I had to have rear suspension work done. After doing about 1200 miles the near side rear tyre had worn to the metal on the inside! I had 4 new Pirelli’s fitted and took the car back to the dealer. They found the drop arm on the offside had failed, they replaced this and I thought all would be fine !.I have since only added another 4000miles max to the car before this years service and mot. To my horror the dealer rang me to say the car had failed the mot due to the rear tyres being worn out ! How did this happen ? The front ones are still like new and I’ve had the car 7 years and previously the 4 tyres have worn evenly and all been replaced at the same time!
The car has always had the proper tyres (PIRELLI). Any help with this matter would be appreciated? Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than open my mouth and prove it !!!!!

On the invoice it said they had. When he rang I reminded him as to what had happened previously and he said he was going to have the alignment checked. That was a couple of days ago and I’m still waiting for the call!?Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than open my mouth and prove it !!!!!
Bearings perhaps or some other suspension part, but then I'd guess you should be getting some sort of feedback from the car if it were component failure?!?!?!
Someone else will come along I'm sure but I would say get the alignment looked at again.Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

Check the height from wheel centre to bottom of wheel arch, it should be 485mm, any less can cause the wheel to splay out at the bottom and increase wear on the inner shoulder, worn bushes are another cause. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks, will get them to check.
Just to add , just had a call to say that they are not happy with the readings the alignment equipment is giving and they are getting the alignment equipment checked by an engineer. Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than open my mouth and prove it !!!!!

That’s a bit worrying!
The thing is , it’s such a heavy car ,the slightest alteration seems to affect them!
The guy at the menders is very knowledgable and I’m happy for them to get to the root of the problem, just a bit frustrating!!!Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than open my mouth and prove it !!!!!

I got my alignment done with a hunters system. The only bit I didn't like about the job was that the rear wheels needed to be removed to torque up the adjuster. The place did not do this. I had to risk going home to do it. I was told it's not part of the service.
Anyhow my tyres wear even and it drives straight.
