Got a call from LR dealer offering me a great deal on a D5

The dealer said, I have a great deal for you. A blk on blk D5 for $59K an SE that is stocked like a HSE, it was ordered by a previous buyer who decided to cancel it once he saw it. I told the dealer that the amount was a good deal, but that my lady and I own two D3's and we love them and that they are running strong. And that my lady and I are not so crazy about the new design shape. He was not happy to hear that. I also told him that I have only seen two D5's on the road in NY since its relase in the US. I asked how well are they selling? He did not answer and said well... if this is not for you then that's ok.

I guess this offer concerns a V6 or V8 petrol, as diesel is hardly sold in the usa ? I would LOVE to buy such a car new for just USD 56k [ € 52k ],
as they cost here between 120k to 280k due to CO2 taxation.... EURO not USD...

D5 as a V6 petrol in The Netherlands...

And the Range Rover petrol versions..

Also we are asked to pay around € 1500 to € 1800 annually to be allowed to drive it on road...

As far as my 2006 HSE TdV6 is concerned ; I pay € 3000 per year just in road tax...

Enjoy your taxhaven while it lasts...

Yikes, keeping you from the freedom of moving independently. I have better things to spend my money on and our D3's don't need replacing they work great. That's price is for the V6 the Diesel is more $, no V8 till the SVR comes out. I can wait till the Defender comes out and will see how that will look.

My D3 is fine too. She needs servicing and will get new brake lines all around. Did you replace your rear brake lines yet ?
We have cold winters in which plenty salt is used to keep the roads open. Other forum member recently needed a body-off
for replacing the engine. Found his rear brakelines severely corroded in places normally invisible...
I will replace oil pump [TdV6 issue] and multibelt... There goes another 2k out of the window...

On top of the hefty taxation, they never really invested enough in roads. They're about 15 years behind in building as we now
have 9 million cars as we had 6 million 15 years ago.... And then we already were stuck in traffic jams regularly. Censored

I returned from the south of Portugal last thursday [ 2700km's in 5 days, avoiding toll roads].

No problems with traffic untill I was about 5km from the Dutch border. Only 3-5% more traffic would put all to a grinding permenant halt. Banging Head Banging Head

Had my brake lines checked a few months back an they were fine. I do get the bottom of the chassis washed at the car wash to get as much road salt off as I can.

The vehicle that they dare not say its name

I was having a look for US JLR September sales figures

Year on year sales up thanks to Fpace and Velar strong demand,
A slight drop off in Disco sports sales and then general
Commentary on all other LR models sales,

Yet, a complete absence of any mention of to the Disco 5?

Been looking at a Disco 5 as my D3 has reached the 10 year point. Cannot say I was that impressed with the shape or the 50k+ GBP pricing. Instead I have now gone for a KIA Sorento and still have change to fix the D3 and go on holiday. The D3 is a car that grows on you and has to be the best caravan tug I have owned. Nothing on the D5 seems to stand out that you cannot find on other less expensive cars. Sorry JLR this D5 did not flick my switch. Sad Big Cry

Guy Salmon sent me an e-mail with a £3k ‘gift voucher’ to incentivise an upgrade to D5 for me. It’s still too expensive for me to justify but though it might be useful if anyone is thinking about placing an order with a dealer.

Yes, I got an email only 2 days ago from Guy Salmon Aylesford offering the same. Gotta say the dealership is amazing so if you are in East Kent, looking to upgrade, definitely give them a call. Their customer service is brilliant.
