I have just booked my holidays in Courchevel going to be out there for the New Year  I was just wondering what type of tyres to fit  I am running MTR's at the moment and they will be up for replacement soon.

I took my D2 to the Alps about a dozen times, and my Goodyear Wrangler HPs were surprisingly excellent - never used chains once. Last time I went, I went with a mate in his D3, and another in his D2, both of which were using vredestein wintrac 4 XLs. Apparently they were excellent. My wife's cousin lives in Norway and he swears by Vredestein tyres. I hoping to go a couple of times this year, and am considering the Vredestein Snowtracs which get very good reviews.
Looks like there's been a bit of snow recently - let's hope it continues!

I am off to the Czech Republic this Christmas and have fitted a set of Vredestein 255/55/19 Winter 4 Extremes on my spare set of Rims for the journey.
Been talked about very recently http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15899.html
They seem to get the best reviews and are made somewhere where it snows alot  D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

Chunky tyres like the Goodyear MTR, Cooper STT etc are not designed as winter tyres and therefore may not be legal to use in some countries as a winter tyre. They have less Silica in the rubber compound giving poor performance in adverse conditions compared to standard looking tyres like BBs Vredestein Winter 4 Extremes The silica in the compound helps the tyre grip the snow/ice at low temperatures.
Thing is I have a pile of MTR's to use up, and have never had any trouble before. The police have always waved us through the check points. The  will hit the fan when I have an accident and the MTR's were found not to be a winter tyre. So what I need is a list of countries and a list of tyres that they accept as a 'winter' tyre.

Michelin website has a bit.....talk to bibendum
trying to find the relevant bits as I went through exactly the same thing last year.....not to mention the snow chain issue.
I went on summer tyres in the end (M+S!!!) and it was noticeable that winter tyre equipped relatives in normal renaults and citroens had more grip than me on the snow and ice............[/url] end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Thats cause they have that Silica stuff in there tyres

AndrewS these guys (well the French State!!) have some good stuff as well (it was their info I followed...and carried a print out with me in the end...however not quite winter season yet so it isn't there as yet and I haven't got what I saved last year on this PC.
Bison Fute end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

no problem.....you have to surf it a bit and sometimes there is no english page but all the regs are there somewhere!! end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

it's interesting to note that Michelin are saying that they don't have any tyres adapted to the D3 for winter...

The local tyre centre in town have just sold me a set of Pirelli Snow And Ice 255/50ZR19 107's for my new RRSport for this winter after I had some seat cover staining moments last winter driving the TDv6 fitted with Continentals on snow and ice. Got the 4 new Pirelli Snow and Ice tyres for £675 including removal of the old tyres from the rims, fitting the new ones, valves and balancing. Now a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300
