Alternator repair - Finished!

I'm going to overhaul my spare alternator this weekend.

I've got Flacks guide to hand. Already took the diode pack out of the alternator, and cleaned up, just got to put the new bits in.

I'll keep this as a spare.

Hi,
Please update when done as I am interested in doing this to mine. I have a sense lead error message and intermitttent red light with reduced charging voltage so from looking arround it seems to be either a connector problem, brushes worn or the regulator needs changing?

I was thinking of getting the regulator and brush parts before removing the altenator but I don't know where to get them from do you have a supplier?

Cheers.

Are the D3 and D4 the same alternator?
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I changed my alternator yesterday - it was not generating below 2000rpm and barely above 2000RPM. So I have my old unit that can probably be reconditioned - where do I find this Bodsy guide?

Thanks

Garry

Started to do the job, but came to a stop when I tried to take the pulley off. I don't have to take it off to do the diode pack, but I really want to get a look at the bearings, before I seal it up again. I borrowed a pulley removal kit which has every conceivable type of socket in, except the one for the Land Rover alternator! Evil or Very Mad

Will try again in the week. Thumbs Up

Its an odd ball one on the Denso Alternator and make sure you undo it the right way or it will strip, they are very tight as well, once you get the pulley off, you will need a bearing puller as well.

I did'nt know Bodsy had done a Alternator guide??...

Flack Thumbs Up

Flack, my apologies Bow down Bow down

I found the Diode Replacement Guide on a Bodsy thread and I assumed!

You know what they say, Assumption makes an Ass out of U and Me!

I've got a 17AF driver to fit the pulley, but cant get a 10AF socket on the shaft at the same time? Would you just use the 17 and an impact gun? Standard thread I guess, anti-clockwise undo?
