Hole in my turbo intake hose
Last week I noticed that my Disco was producing lots of black smoke under acceleration and that my fuel consumption has dropped as low as 7mpg. After a look around the engine bay I have found a substantial split in my turbo intake hose (see attached picture).
A new hose is on it's way ready for me to replace this weekend, but I'm worried that the black smoke and poor fuel consumption may not be linked to the hole. I'm hoping somebody on here has experienced the same issue and symptoms and can give me some advice and pointers.
Below is a more detailed list of symptoms;
- Lots of black smoke when accelerating but not when revving while stationary
- Average MPG has dropped as low as 7mpg
- No noticeable loss of power
- No noticeable difference to acceleration
- Some oily residue on the inside of the intake hose
Thanks in advance for your help

Thank f**k for that! The hose has set me back £40 odd and I'm hoping it will be a quick job to replace it. I was worried it would turn into something bigger and more expensive.12 months of D3 ownership have passed and I’m still loving it!

Easy job to change it - just watch for oil coming from the bottom of the hose when you take it off as there's often a bit in there and it will go all over your driveway if you aren't expecting it!
One screw on the clip at the top, one on the bottom through the cover on the inner arch access panel that is clipped on with the 2 part bayonet style trim clips and its off.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Ouch , regarding the cost of the hose , must admit think I paid around £60 for a full set of silicone hoses
enclosed some links for the T bolts and also some stainless steel jubilee clips as the bottom intercooler outlet is oval so a T bolt clamp won’t fit, is a nice easy job, also need to remember to refit the hose sleeving

Hiya
Indeed one of the easiest jobs , see the small turbo hose is hard to replace
But counted my blessings as it cured the P132 error code as one of the clips were broke on the hose that connected directly to the turbo

I’m glad I read this before the hose arrives! I attempted to remove the damaged hose earlier this week, I nearly had the entire front end off trying to get to the bottom 12 months of D3 ownership have passed and I’m still loving it!

The new hose is fitted and I’m now getting 32mpg. I’m wondering how long I’ve had a hole now.
Thanks everyone for your help
