Hi all, Just Baught a disco 3 2007 tdv6 and i am hearing a light ticking/clicking noise on start up coming from the engine bay, you will hear it only with windows open as it is very light noise. This happens on cold start and when leaving the car switched off for around 5 minutes after a drive ans start again, Somtimes it doesnt do it.. the ticking sound lasts for about 3/5 seconds maximum.. has any one experienced this?

Exercising the turbo veins I think. Or is it the EGRs.
Not strictly true, my "new" engine (effectively a LR reman) was as quiet as a mouse on start up (Well from that bit anyway!) for over 100000 miles. As long as the seals on the hydraulic lifters are good and keep the oil in, then they don't tick.
I do accept though that it is a common "problem" and nothing really to worry about. Mark.

You're thinking of the ticking you get on shutdown - which is the turbo/egr's doing stuff.Mark.

Time taken to get oil pressure up.
If u watch the oil light the sound will probably go at the same time the light goes out

Both my D3’s did it. Start a cold engine and clickety click until the oil light went out.
If it’s taking a while for the oil light to go out, then maybe consider how old the oil pump is, or worst case is if it’s just been serviced, and suddenly starts ticking or the oil light takes longer to go out, or even worse case scenario, starts coming on at idle, check the oil filter is fitted correctly.
