Fbh remote running time

Does anyone know if you can change the running time on the early bas fbh controller? Mine runs for 30 mins but when I fire her up she ticks over lumpy and won’t rev. Car seems to start and run more normal when fbh remote is not used.

Mine did this with oldish battery. I think... FBH ran for a bit until battery volts dropped. When I go out to start up, I've got low volts and FBH only run for 10 minutes or so (as stopped to preserve battery), hence lumpy start.

Fbh definitely runs for 30 mins as I’ve checked. Battery seems fine ie how it cranks the engine. I’ve recently changed the water temp sensor and the oil temp sensor because I’ve herd those can cause the problem. I only fitted the fbh remote because the disco takes for ever to heat the cabin. It’s pretty frustrating that it makes the car start worse when it’s used though lol.

You definitely have a problem else where, running the fbh should only make it start better. Maybe search for the problem you have and ignore the fact your using the fbh, I’m sure you will get a few results to point you in the right direction.

Believe me I have searched on here and over on the rrs forum as well as google. The fact it starts fine without running fbh definitely points to the fact it’s something to do with the engine thinking it’s warm and cutting the glow plug cycle out ( let’s face it the engine should be warm ) the fact that it does this after running the fbh for 30 mins is not normal as I’ve read story’s where people’s discos or rr have completely shot glow plugs and running a fbh for 30 mins totally solves the non starting issue. As said ours doesn’t have a problem starting without. Only other thing I’ve read that possibly could cause this problem is water temp sensor or oil temp sensor. These have both recently been done. There is only one forum member that I know of that has the exact same problem but he’s said it doesn’t bother him that his ticks over lumpy as he just leaves it ticking over for a few minutes and it clears itself. It really is a rare one.

When you start up, what does the temperature gauge read? If the FBH is warming the water, but it's not being circulated around the engine, the engine could think it's either hot (localised heating of the sensor) and not switching the glow plugs when the engine is actually still cold.

I don't know if there's any diagnostic on the pump?

The other thing is could it be the engine thermostat is stuck open which causes the FBH to try and heat too much of the engine?

If the rad thermostat is not closing it will take forever to heat the water up, simple test with an infra-red thermometer.
Are you sure it's running the full 30 minuets with fuel as low as that?- if the low fuel light comes on the FBH will go off.

Definitely running the full 30 mins. I’ve timed it on a couple of occasions to make sure.

Feel the rad for heat before you start the engine after the FBH has been running and again 10 minutes after starting the engine it should be stone cold.

I’ll give it a try. Surly there would be signs that the stat is stuck during normal running though no??

The only sign would be the heater takes longer to get hot, they are designed to fail "safe" open, that dosn't necessarily mean fully open, but not fully closed.

have look at your thermostat as a possible problem.
