If they fail its a new engine, I will never change any front belts on a D3 or D4 without fitting new idler pulleys. around £80.00 for the pair against 5 to 6 k for new engine.

I was informed that my idlers were in good shape, but after 6k I started to hear a ticking noise that was caused by slight play in one idler that made the belt shift over on the RH camshaft pulley causing the belt to rub and split, the bit of belt sticking out was hitting the plastic cover causing the tick, luckily I caught it in time

ALWAYS CHANGE THE IDLER PULLEYS ALWAYS
If a pulley stops/stuks, the belt breaks ...

My idlers were changed when mine was recently done. The garage suggested it as essential. There logic was the belts might not get touched again for another 7 years or 100k+ mileage, by which point, the originals will be very old and possibly very worn.

Would anyone know if that part number for the idler mentioned is the actual pulley? Says 2 of them so assume it is.
