19 or 20 inch wheels?
Hi all,
I've been offered a set of 20 inch disco wheels which look great but wondered what the pros and cons are of 20 inch versus 19 inch??
Thanks all

Bigger the wheel, the smaller the tyre sidewall, the harder the ride.

There’s a happy medium to hit.
Too small a sidewall and the ride will be harsh, the wheels and tyres will be vulnerable to damage and the weight, of the wheel & tyre combined, will be heavier (unsprung weight is never a good thing for handling). Combine the low sidewall with wide rubber and look forward to tramlining
Too tall a tyre sidewall and the handling can become a little vague, especially at high speeds on motorways when it may appear to wander a little.
Given the choice again, I’d go for 18’s on a D4, but 19” is probably optimum for regular road use.
Mind you, it won’t stop someone coming along and telling us that their 22” rimmed D4 runs perfectly and their missing fillings aren’t remotely a problem either 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

First modification I’ve done on my last three D4’s is to remove the 20” rims and replace with either 19” LR rims or 18” Compomotive PD1881.
I take usability, practicality and comfort over styling though. So each to their own. 👍2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I agree, I run my D4 on 19’s and the ride is much better.
The 20’s that came on the car only stayed on for a few months and are still in the shed.D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.

I've always run 20s and don't find the ride quality an issue.
Then again, I've ran with wider tyres (285/50 & 275/45), so I've got extra cushioning, but over the width rather than height.
About to put some Grabber AT3 275/45/20s on the new 511s this week....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Surely a 20” wheel with a 255/55x20 will ride the same as a 19” 255/55x19 unless I’m missing something??Still lurking, although moved to the dark side: disco5.co.uk

I'd say the 19s are about 15-20% more comfortable on the road
