Possible to move towing electrics?
Hi Guys,
Long story but I've ended up with a MaxxRaxx bike rack swan neck receiver that sites the upright in front of my 13pin towing socket and renders it useless. What's the easiest remedy - get a new MaxxRaxx swan neck towbar socket for the other side or switch the towbar socket to the other side?
Is switching the 13pin electrics to the other side possible?
TIA!-------------------------------------------------------------------

which side are they now - in the right hand hole as you look at it from the back or the left.
I have my 13pin on the left

You’ll have to unclip the connectors below the NSR light
Undo the screws on the 13 pin plug
Pull it all out and pop it in the other side
Mine is on the right hand side looking from the backG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks guys, yes drivers side on mine too and I want it on the passenger side. So it's all possible then - it's not 'keyed' to the right? I'll have a go shortly!-------------------------------------------------------------------

Sol I've finally had a crack at this - pulled it all out and fed it back in on the left, BUT...
The screw holes are a different pattern on the left (4 holes in a square as opposed to three in a triangle) and the screws that I've taken out of the 13pin mount don't appear to be the same thread pitch as the receiving threads on the left - I tried but they bind.
Do I just try to bodge it or is there a neat solution? Sorry if I'm being really dense...
Thanks!-------------------------------------------------------------------

I have my 13pin socket on the left, with the cap hinge on the left hand side (so not at the top). It also has the adaptor ring behind it, but I dont recall mine having that funny shaped hole in the chassis rail. I'm sure it was round the same as the right hand one.
Could you not drill 4 holes in the plastic ring to match the 4 in the chassis, mount that then fit the socket to the ring?

Cheers guys, if it's a choice between drilling and tapping or finding a new adaptor I'm going to go for the latter!
Thanks again-------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't talking about drilling and tapping. I was thinking more if 4 ( although 2 opposite ones would probably do) holes through the plastic ring you already have, countersink them, then bolt through the chassis with a nylock but on the back, then fit your socket to the ring using bolts into the brass inserts in the ring.

Ahh, OK, fair point. I've done similar to that for the moment, securing it with only one screw into the car and the three into the adaptor but the new adaptor is only £1.50 so it's a no brainer IMO. Thanks Al.-------------------------------------------------------------------
