When I was (much) younger, I enjoyed 'off roading', doing organised trials with the AWDC and some green laning.
I (and my friends) were always careful not to cause damage, not to go laning when the ground was too soft, and to always stick to the prescribed routes.
Unfortunately the idea of going off the tarmac got a really bad reputation as far back as the early 90's and as always, it's idiots like the ones reported, who have ruined it for everyone else. Richard
