**Please help** I Dont want to buy a nail...! lol
Hi Guys, Im looking to buy a well looked after D3 with 123000 miles (Extensive Service History) and it has had oil changes (alleged!) every 5000 miles.....it was parked up most of the back end of the year and when started up last month this happened:
"The car has not been used much since the end of summer last year due to me being ill and not being able to drive. I started the car in the new year, however once it started we had rough idle and more smoke than you'd usually get. Ideally the car will need to be towed away, however if you did decide to drive it away, it's up to you - it does run and drive but it smokes quite a bit so I would not advise it"
Any advice would be grateful as i don't want to spend £6k on it and the same again to fix it....!
PLEASE HELP
***just been advised that the car is kicking out thick black smoke.....??? but drives ok, just when idling it has issues....?

Could be old fuel, around the system....
Suggest that it goes for a long decent run and get fresh diesel...then see how it goes..
I'm sure if you mention concerns to the seller, either he can run it or you !!

ISTR smoke on idling can be injectors. Can you get fault codes read, and live injector balance values? Someone near you with an IID (other widgets are available) may be able to do that for you or a suitable inducement.

I'd turn and walk personally. Seems a bit of a tale.

Fuel burning heater. For that the smoke would be coming out the front of the car not the exhausts.

I was also interested in this but spoke to the lady on the phone and she said it was backfiring too. Also of note this is the higher tax bracket car. May have jumped a tooth on the cam. It’s a gamble.

I would walk away. There are so many for sale out there and you can always find one. That could just be the start of it. Only my opinion The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

Is there a link to this add? Just to see what it looks like and what they are asking for.

If the engine is on the verge of going PT it may only be worth a grand, or whatever can be gotten from its constituent parts.
