Discovery 3 EPB not working,I'm desperate please help |
|
2006 discovery 3 2.7td v6 recently purchased with the epb not working.
I've spent hours and hours on here looking through threads and looking at the common problems but still no go.
When the ignition is on the red parking brake light flashes no amber, when I pull the epb switch or push it the light flashes and beeps.
I've stripped the epb switch and cleaned it but it looked spotless
checked the fuse 8E in engine bay it's ok,fuse 41p in the glove box was missing so replaced this and still intact
I've removed nsf wheel and liner unplugged the epb cable and seperate blue earth cable then cleaned the contacts but all looked ok.Then I've done the same at the actuator end all looked good
I've stripped one of the rear brakes and all looks pretty new and clean, all clips good etc.
I've connected the Hawk Eye diagnostic and it reads code C1A43 motor supply cct general electric failure
I have tried the service latching procedure, mounting procedure and the un jam procedure and it comes up with conditions not correct. The cable on the side with the wheel removed is slack and not taking up at all even though it is adjusted correctly
Can anyone help please it's driving me nuts and I can't mot it until it works?
Thanks Nigel

I would unplug the connector at the EPB and check the thick cable green with yellow stripe, has power on it.
Otherwise I guess, you may need to contuinity check the twisted yellow can wires somehow

You need to make sure that both cables are still attached to the leading shoe, if one cable is slack then that side has more than likely come off.

It was still attached or at least it was fed through the arm but was in its fully retracted position.

I forgot to ask, does it make any motor noises?
You should be able to hear it inside.

Having suffered the epb locking on and pulling for emergency release
long shot but could be some one has done this,so the epb needs relatching using the software as the handbook reattach is a joke
dont forget its Friday night and I am well into a bottle of 18 year old single malt

Hi Daftlad I've tried the latching procedure on the Hawk eye and it just comes back conditions not met.

sounds like main power to the EPB unit green/yellow wire
or an internal EPB fault with whatever controls the motor

I've checked the main fuse under the bonnet but the one behind the glove box was missing so I replaced that and as not blown. Is it a permanent supply to the green /yellow or is it just when the epb switch is activated?.Are there any relays to check?.One of the previous owners has obviously disabled it by removing a fuse.Is it has simple as removing the epb plug at the actuator and measuring with a normal test meter to earth?.

It's a permanent supply to green /yellow
No relays
I guess removing the glovebox fuse stopped the dash light (P) coming on
Yes, remove the EPB plug
Set DMM to 20V DC
Meassure between green/yellow and earth (a thick black)
I think there are 2 green/yellows to check

Be good to fill in your profile, so we know if you have a manual or auto.
