Air Con IID Question

Hi All,

After looking through the live values on my IID tool I noticed my air con system pressure is showing as zero, the air con is not particually cold when I put the temp on low, do you know if this this live value is to be trusted? and do you think its indicating a leak in the system?

If it's anything like the air con in my M3 track car, if the pressure drops below x then the compressor will not be allowed to kick in (the magnetic coil clutch will not be energised).

If you switch the A/C on and off can you hear the compressor cutting in and then out etc.

If it does not engage that could be suggestive of low pressure preventing it.

Just a thought.

I wouldn’t necessarily trust the IID value. Many selectable options exist in software but some are not available across various models as sensors don’t exist etc.

They lose about 10% of gas each year so if it has not be checked for a while it may need to be re-gassed take it to kwick-fit i think they do a £49 check and refill and if it don't work you pay and i have heard some people take it back after a while when the problem is fixed and had it regassed Thumbs Up

You should be able to take it for a test and refill. The machine which does it first sucks out the old refrigerant so there is a vacuum, then does a pressure test for 20 minutes or so. Only after that is it refilled. When I got mine done a 1/2 year ago they added some kind of dye which was supposed to make it easier to find eventual leaks.

Its a vac test the machine does, problem is vac does not always find positive pressure leaks, for that you need a nitrogen bottle and a squirty soapy water bottle

I must try that setting tomorrow and see what value it shows. mine is an ‘06 so just coming up on 12 years old and I haven’t put gas in it since I got it in 2010. But it’s still as cold as ice when used Thumbs Up

As lynalldiscovery says you need to have a nitrogen test if you want to find it as a vacuum test will actually seal a small leak so you will never know so either fill it with gas and uv dye and see what happens or get someone to test it with nitrogen Thumbs Up

With the car stopped for about 20 minutes I tested mine and it showed a pressure of 6.1 bar. The air con was very cold on my car The last time I used it.
