Best value tyres for D3?

Hi

MOT is coming up and the tyres need changing. 255/60/R18.

What would anyone say is the best value tyre in terms of price and longevity? We don't off road but we do value 'value for money'.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Adri

Since Ive had my D3
Pirellie Zeros 15k at best
Pirelli ATRs 19k so far and maybe another 2 on the fronts and 5 on the rear, then they are dead, all 4 wearing nice ane even maybe 1 to 2mm difference side to side on the fronts.

Both very good intiial grip then they semm to go off quite quickly and they just dont feel the same (sort of inprecise even in a straight line) and certainly dont grip as well as they used to.
Overall dissapointed.

Local Tyre shop suggested Jinyu Crosspro as the taxis have them fitted. They say the taxis go for them because they last a long time!

And they're £83 fitted!!!

First off you are driving a 3 ton brick and if you value your safety then perhaps dont scrimp on tyres.
Secondly if you buy cheap taxi tyres at least make sure they are the correct load rating as if they are not and you have an accident your insurance will have good grounds to try to weadle out of paying out
From memory the load rate is 111

Just asked and the load rating is 112v

Now need to interpret that.

I get your point about the 3 ton brick but I'm a very sedate driver, always looking to save on fuel etc so there's no racing about.

112V are fine
I get the bit about being a steady driver but its not always about yourself, its about the other drives on the roads.
One other point, as others have said Discoveries are a bit fusy about tyres and the handling son drops off as the tyre starts to wear down

Our focus estate came on jinyu tyres and we do 18k+ a year I’ve since swapped to Michelin but to be honest the jinyu were fine no problems to report at all! Thumbs Up
But not sure how long a cheaper tyre would last on a disco! Buy cheap buy twice and all that! Thumbs Up

Ebay 303.00 quid for four, that is exactly half the price of a named brand tyre!

Jinyu tyres came recommended to me by a tyre fitter i know and trust...Not fitted them on my discovery but have on my bmw estate and found them to be excellent in fairness.
Brand snobs do annoy me somewhat...each to their own but i go for quality and value for money over cost and 'name'..the amount of times i have purchased branded 'premium' tyres only to find them shocking is shameful...now i stick with advice from those in the know...

Ps im running Nokian wr's on my disco and find them fine.
There..im two pence lighter now! Rolling with laughter

There is plenty of objective evidence that tyres generally perform in proportion to their price, i.e. the top brands perform better than the budget brands.

Of course, the differences may not be noticeable in general daily driving, but try an emergency brake on a wet road and the difference is between "phew!" and exchanging details.

Those of us who use All Terrain tyres need always to remember that they are not as good in extremis as a decent road tyre. Budget tyre users must do likewise. Thumbs Up
