Engine failure

Morning all. I’m 3weeks into owning my d3 and really starting to enjoy her. Drives well , smooth through the gears, for 2weeks she put a smile on my face, although she drank a lot. so I decidied to treat her to a good blanking and and a gentle remap.
All seemed well until I was passing a vehicle on the A59, when all power went, lights were on but the horses had bolted. In the dash it said engine failure briefly, followed by special programs off appeared. The orange light highlighting the driving mode in the console had gone off and the vehicle was somewhere invetween limp mode and freewheeling. Hazards on , pulled over, engine off, engine back on no errors showing , starts her up. Off we go. This happened a few more times on my trip to Newcastle but seemingly only when I put her under load, not good on a hill!!! I had some discussions about it possibly being an alternator fault as I had just got a new battery but all electrics seemed to be doing ok. It seemed that it was not getting fuel. , and maybe the fuel filter wasn’t up to the remap or was just clogged up. So had that replaced with a Mann filter. So too it easy for an hour or so then put her through her paces. No issues at all. Let’s of dark smoke from had accelerating didn’t look good but no engine issues. All was good yesterday, However in the afternoon en route to collecting my daughter, it struck again, I was only pulling away into a turn and it failed again.
There are no dash errors, I have a parking sensor fault at the rear and that’s it that I know of. Nothing showing. So I’m at a loss as to what it could be, does she not like blanking ? Is the remap too much for her? Can she be demapped? I’m open to any ideas or suggestions, as she’s not safe or fit to drive and the pigging snow has arrived. Thanks.

Was the remap from a reputable recommended tried and tested source, if not my first thoughts are take it off at least until this fault has been cured, unrecomended cheapo remaps can cause very expensive problems.
Check brake light bulbs are good, the brake light switch may be faulty, if the system gets a false signal from the brake light switch power will be cut instantly, cheap £12 fix. Thumbs Up

If I am reading your words correctly the load/power/smoke symptoms sound like nothing more than an intercooler system leak.

Very similar if not identical symptoms to my own in my MY09 SE. Had the egr valves replaced and made no difference. Finally got it in to LR who diagnosed high pressure fuel pump failing. P-x’d it for MY16 HSE and LR honoured their original PX price despite the fault.

hi all, thanks of the feedback. interesting read of similar issues. the remap was done by a reputable chap from here, but he's away at the moment so will discuss option of removing when he is back. will look at getting some fault codes in the meantime, I have an obdII tool but it doesn't seem to be working on the d3 for some reason. Thumbs Up

just a wee update.. the man is back from his break so I got a proper diagnostic error thing done and it came up turbo error. he checked the pipes that were removed for the blanking and a clip had popped lose. clipping it back in place seems to have done the trick and hopefully thats that Thumbs Up

Sounds a wee like it's blowing the intercooler pipes off through over boost, hope not but time will tell, Mikey had this problem with his first tune, cost him dear ISTR Crying or Very sad

It doesn't always spell BIG TROUBLE when you get the messages ENGINE FAILURE and ALL SYSTEMS OFF......

... I must admit it kind of shocked me when it happened to me, on our way to a Christmas Fair in castle grounds near Utrecht... .. and it was snowing like mad. Shocked

So I stopped on the hard shoulder, phoned my dealer and got Phil on the line [mechanic]. So he said, just try to start it and see what happens.

Nothing wrong anymore.. ..no messages.. ... not even " i " in the display... Mr. Green

So as I happened to be around the dealership [ test drive an F-Type ], a mechanic had a look... Just a small rip in the turbo hose, next to the clamp...

A detail easily overlooked when investigating I guess Whistle

Well done Mattijn.. Thumbs Up

Bow down Bow down
