Weird ‘chuffing’ noise from turbo or gearbox? (video)

Hello guys- wonder if you could help with an issue, not sure how serious it is but after lifting off the accelerator and slowing down between 20-10 mph I get this weird ‘chuffing’ air sound? Don’t know how else to explain it.. it’s an auto 2005 D3. At the same time the revs jump up and down slightly

Have a listen to this: https://vimeo.com/282733731

Cheers!

I could not hear the noise in the video, but if the sound is more prominent in built up areas with cars and buildings around for the sound to bounce off, I would take a punt at the noise being the toque convertor., its almost like scraping metal and only at lowish speeds.
Mine has made the same noise for over 3.5 years now.
The revs fluctuating is more worrying and I would say get you gearbox oil changed and go from there.

Gearbox guy told me new t/cs can also make the same noise
Have a serach for noisy torque convertor and get reading

Thanks for the reply. It does sound sort of similar to videos of faulty torque converters but not quite as bad I guess. If it is a torque converter I’m guessing it’s not too serious if yours has been doing it for 3.5 years? Also do you know roughly how much it is to fix a TC?

I think a new/recon t/c is about 1 to 1.5k fitted

Try the oil first and if it stops the juddering you can live with the noise

Mannol AG55 from ebay is the oil at a sensible price, genuine stuff is silly money

Search for Filos gearbox oil change thread, well worth a read and is easy and pretty mess free to do
