Beeping signal on ignition with EPB flashing

I experienced this morning something weird and wanted to ask if anybody can recommend action or if this is something I can ignore:

I normally engage the EPB every time I park the car.

This morning (which was the coldest morning this year) as soon as I turned the ignition on, there was a beeping sound (quite loud) and the red EPB sign was flashing every second or so. I started the car, the beeping stopped but the signal was still flashing. I disengaged the EPB and the flashing signal stopped. The parking brake disengaged normally, without any sound (except the one of the motors driving the pads)

I went on to drive and stopped few times later just to check, everything was fine. I parked, engaged the EPB, sounds and feels normal. Didn't reappear again.

What gives?

Hi, my epb used to do this occasionally. Never thought much of it, I was going to get the garage to check the shoes at the next service, then it jammed on one night with the kids in the car... Needed a new module at £1100 Sad

probably worth keeping an eye on.

Holy! Thanks for the heads up. Do you guys not use the EPB everyday e.g. only when absolutely need parking on a hill etc? I have a slight slope on my driveway so I always engage it. Thanks

My previous 2010 used to do this every now and again, perhaps once a month or so, never got to the bottom of it and never caused a problem in over 2 years of ownership. Put it down to just one of those things. If you search there are a few others that had similar issue but didn't lead to anything more sinister.

I don't use the EPB at all even when parking on hills.
Usually forget all about it.
Problem with that now is when driving other motors, I usually forget to release the old type handbrake and try and drive off. Amazing how quickly we forget Sad

Same as above mine used to do it occasionally. hasn't done it in ages now but there were never any fault codes logged.

See the ‘sticky’ poll referring to this above, in the Faults and Fixes section.

It’s the EPB’s way of telling you that the cable tension reduced while parked. This is an indication that you will need to have the EPB adjusted. Whenever I get this I follow Bodsy’s EPB procedure to recalibrate the EPB and it doesn’t do it again for another 12 months.

I always use the EPB and in 12 years of owning D3's only had one issue(Screeching) and adjustment of shoes ( under warranty) solved that. I cannot see that not using it will be of any benefit , motors will seize and parts rust together. Any system with electrical adjustments need as bit of exercise to keep it free running

Confused Got to agree with L319 above, I wouldn't rely on the auto box 'Park lock' on a hill (it's not like sticking a manual in gear) and if the EPB is cleaned, lubricated and adjusted properly (as per Bodsys BB) it should be used as a normal handbrake and function with no issues Thumbs Up

Where one can find the Bodsy's manual for readjusting, is it in the brake bible?
