Poor starting
Hi all,
My D3 takes a long time to start when the engine is cold or its been switched off for more than 30 mins.
Basically it normally now takes about 7 seconds of cranking before it will start.
Once started it runs perfectly with no smoke or lumpiness.
If you switch off & start again within a few minutes it starts normally.
Leave it for more than 30 mins & its back to at least 4 seconds of cranking.
It appears all the fuel has gone but I had a leak back test done last week and the garage said there was minimal loss & all injectors were fairly similar.
Strangely though they also said they had no problems starting it albeit they didn't drive it anywhere & I doubt they allowed it to get warm (they kept if for 5 days & started it every day).
They returned it to me (about 500 metres away) and it started perfectly the next time I tried. I moved it to the side of the building and then started it later in the day - again it started perfectly.
I drove it home (30 mins) & then the following morning it was back to 7 seconds of cranking.
Summary, if started & then not moved or allowed to get warm it appears to start fine day after day.
If driven for some distance/allowed to get warm its awful.
Anybody got any ideas what is changed by heat and why it would suddenly take so long to start?
This problem has been going on for the year I've owned it & has got worse - it used to be about 3 seconds of cranking which wasn't as embarrassing as 7!
The chap I bought it from said it was intermittent - he'd had the glow plugs checked & they are fine.
What can change so much after 30 mins that causes such a long crank to start?
Cheers
Adrian

Are EGR's blanked or original?

I've got the same, I suspect it's all down to faulty injector(s).

EGR's previously blanked. Its booked in for this coming Friday - I'm expecting injectors but hope its just one (at £250 each)!!
