Rock and tree sliders

Just fitted rock and tree sliders. Thanks for the fitting tips on here and for the YouTube clips. However, I’d not seen anything about the bolt holes being gummed up with crud. The 5 bolt holes on top of the sill were ok but the 6 underneath were a PITA. My cars been offroad numerous times but I’d think the same problem would occur with a road car due to general road muck and salt etc. I should have used a tap on the threads but not having one I decided to use a bolt to clean them all up - half a turn in, half a turn out style. This took hours! The final bolt (always the case) took 1/2 hour just to start on the 1st thread!
Without this problem, the job would have been straightforward.
I bought the bars from Shire Fabrications as they are just down the road from me. Got a ‘show price’ and no delivery charge, of course. Cheap as chips so worth a punt I thought. Pleasantly surprised by them, all bolt holes lined up and fixings included. If you go my route, be aware that they will not fit on the 2nd row of seats - if you’ve got a load rack remove it first so they will fit through the back over folded seats Embarassed
I think the look finishes the car off nicely. They sick out proud of the doors to protect from car park dings and slightly proud of the wheels.

Out of curiosity - did you coat them with something or leave them as is?

I left them as is. If I catch them any coating will be worn off. If I don’t catch them then the coating should be good enough for several years.

They look really nice. Forgive my ignorance but are they wide enough to use as steps too?

Thank you, sir! I was thinking getting the same kind and either applying grip tape on top or U-POL Raptor coat the visible parts... originally I was concerned with potential rusting since they’re steel (hence raptor all over) but also foot grip so one doesn’t slip.

Regarding tape - 3M seems to be the recommended brand and survives Montana winters so it should survive in Scandinavia, too.

You could do but put some skateboard tape on to make them less slippy.

Smile They look like they might be my first Christmas present to myself. My OEM's have had a hard life.

I paid a ‘show’ price As it was just after one of the land rover shows. Also living locally i picked them up rather than paying delivery. Bear in mind these are very heavy items and won’t fit sideways over your rear seat. I had to take my load guard out to fit them in the Disco lengthways.

Steps look gay imo. These match the macho look of the car. Also, if you catch steps they stand a chance of bending/breaking. The sliders are a solid bit of kit.
