I have a disco 3 2008, bought from the dealership, every single service and work done at the dealership and now done 85kDrives perfectly, no management lights on etc etc, developed a slight knocking sound! Stopped driving it, got it recovered to the dealership, £225 of diagnostics and says need a new engine-£15000!!!! I am in the Southampton area, anyone recommend what to do please?

Options:

1. Chase LR and say this is not acceptable, quote engine failure threads on here - there are plenty. If it has a full dealer service book you might be in luck (unlikely) or they offer to pay some of it. Don't roll over to easily.

2. Get a second hand engine fitted from a Jag. about £5k ish. Speak to Woody32.

3. Sell the car as a non runner.

As an aside, if it was recently serviced, check the oil filter wasn't twisted when it was replaced. This will starve the engine of oil.

Good luck. There are no cheap and easy options.

Is it £15k for a new engine now! Thought it was £10k last year. Nothing appreciates like Land Rover parts. There was a recent thread where JLR offered a new engine for £6500. His had a broken crank with full service history.

A factory recon 2.7 is £4250 + VAT with a 2 year warranty

Fitting is extra, by your preferred repairer, be it a main dealer, Indy or backstreet garage

Expect to pay around £7k for said engine fitted, unless you go to the dealers...

Mine had a new engine in 2010 (with the previous owner) and it cost them £6510, Land Rover paid the other half! Shocked

had a LR supplied recon unit put in trigger in march 2012, then started to knock whilst in the dealership's workshop after 38k, had the last complete 2.7 off the shelf I recall as a replacement Rolling with laughter

moral of story, get it fitted by whomever supplies the engine that way you have some comeback for all aspects.

had a minor bump on the osr door, sprinter backed in to it whilst having our truck Mot'd, their fault etc but cost £125 for a complete door with everything in situ, glass, motors, wiring loom etc and in the right colour Rolling with laughter
