No Drive! Prop Failure.. Question
I fitted a new prop around 2k miles ago as the centre bearing was failing (and soon to be flailing)!
Today there was a burning rubber smell.. a thunk Noise and then NO drive..
Further investigation revealed the prop to be floating in a melted pot of primeval oozzy tar like substance.. (melted rubber?)

2 questions..
1. Why did this happen?
2. Why did I loose all drive?1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

Ah, maybe not, i was getting prop & drive shafts confused.
the rubber looks more dissolved than burnt in your picture. did you use a solvent to clean everything before fitting ?

I bought it from a fellowforum member... i cant remember the make alas.
No solvent was used.. but you are right.. it looks like it has dissolved..
This does not look like a very common failure?
I have been towing and in low range a lot.. and i thought the box had gone... as you can see the prop is still pretty new, so its more to do with the the type of use vs the length of use... ie its not degraded over a period of time...
Im trying to source a new one today without forking out an arm and a leg......?
Im still trying to understand why i lost all drive.. The output drive from the box was there as the drive was turning.. however there was/is no drive to the front wheels?1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

I assume the rear flange on the transfer box is turning, but not the rear prop. If so the balls or spline has failed in that joint.
As for the front prop not turning, the centre diff works, thus all drive is going to rear. If you put it in rock crawl mode it'll lock the centre diff & you will get drive locked to the front to enable you to move the vehicle
As for the rear prop make sure you get a GKN driveline prop as they are OE.
