D3 with 130k on the clock - advice would be very welcome.. |
|
Evening all...
Longtime lurker, and now i would love some specific advice from you all on this D3.
So, here's the info.
- 06 plate, 3.2 TD V6
- 2 owners
- FSH with all stamps, and info in the book about the big repairs / replacements.
- The last owner for 4 years has all the receipts that list out all the 'work' done.
- Cosmetically looks great for it's age.
- Replacements over last 4 years include: timing belt, alternator, handbrake, new tyres.
Took it out for a test drive tonight (loved it!) and checked:
- all electrics working.
- suspension rises / lowers with no issues.
- all doors / boots aligned etc.
- no clunky noises when starting engine.
- changes gear absolutely fine.
asking for 5.2k.
So... what else should i be looking for in terms of items that should defo have been replaced on a car this age / milage.. and do you have any other advice?
Also - would you recommend an AA inspection on a car like this, or is there someone more suited to D3's who could inspect?
Many thanks!
A.

What engine has it got in it?- LR don't make a 3.2 TDV6!
Check the oil pump is not the type that fails, other than that buy it It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I hope missing the oil pump is not a typo, imperative you check on a my06 before purchase as the old type can snap without warning taking the engine with it they are usually changed/updated at the same time as the T belt. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

If it's an auto, check for torque converter judder. Have a search for it, there's loads of old posts about it.

How high is the biting point of the clutch, and is there any mention of a new clutch being fitted anytime?

i can't rely describe that - i mean i didn't notice anything different... if that make any sense...
as for the clutch replacement - i 'think' i saw that in the SH, i'll have to check.
Spent a while looking on here to find out a list that breaks down the items that need to be replaced - and the service points / milage when they should be done...
Can anyone send me a link to this?
thanks guys!

It would be good to know the injector values (you'll need some sort of decent diagnostics system, IID or similar. Take 30 seconds to check,if you have the equipment. Might be able to get a forum member to help you out if they're local.
Also, glow plugs can be a nightmare. £12 part that often shears off in the head. Would be good to know if they work. Takes 5 mins to check with a cheap clamp amp meter.
