How long should compressor run? |
|
As above, having a few issues, the suspension dropped on the front, was getting slow rise etc, rebuilt the dryer, put on raised to normal height fine, put in off road rear straight up front slower, pump seems to run for a long time, when fully raised pulled fuse 26, and it stayed at the same hight for 48hours, put fuse 26 back in stayed the same for another 24hours, starting car yesterday to do a full service, egr delete, silicon hoses, had in off road, but sounds like pump was running for ages to fill tank? Had down low and high, working but, seemed to be running for ages, it dose stop, at some point, could the tank have a hole in it? After anymore advice before I put it back on the road. Thanx

I had similar symptoms on mine ,Under the sills there is a tank each side ,Mine had a tiny leak in one of them. Replaced that and a rebuild kit for the compressor and all good so far.

There's only one tank, under the passenger/near side.

I would say knackered compressor unable to fill the tank, but only way to tell is to plug in and monitor the tank pressures and the compressor temperatures.

That I dont know, but as I like an easy life I would grit my teeth and stump up for a new unit and be done with it especially if you plan on keeping the car for some time.
Dont forget theres also an inlet filter tucked up inside the chassis I dont know if they block up? but got to be worth a look.
If you contact member Gstuart hes done quite a bit of suspension work on his D3 incl valve blocks/compressor etc so will have some good advice for you.

I fitted one of the cheaper Hitachi replacement pumps a month ago, works well, near silent operation and runs for a much shorter duty cycle than the one it replaced. It was from eBay and cost £299 and has a 2 year warranty

That's not a bad price, only concern is if it isn't the pump

Hi, my compressor never needs to run for more than about 3 minutes, even if the suspension is fairly empty.
Every other day or so it runs for about 20 sec, stops, then sneezes. That seems to be about the norm in my experience of EAS.
