Dashboard creak / crack D4
Hi,
I have a 64 plate D4 HSE bought last November from a main dealer.
After a day or two I noticed a creaking / cracking sound coming from the dashboard but could not pinpoint exactly where it was coming from. Anyway by February I could take no more, it was doing my head in. So I booked in to the local dealer (not the dealer I bought it from) and asked that a tech join me for a spin. He recognized the noise straight away (without me having to highlight it). Apparently 3 lugs that attach the dashboard to the bulkhead need to be repacked / insulated. I was of course relieved that they knew what the problem was however they told me today that it was not covered by the extended warranty. So they quoted for 6 hours work - £840 plus VAT!! Both my local dealer and myself have contacted the dealer from where I bought the car but surprise surprise they are not returning our calls.
Would appreciate any advice / help.
Many thanks

Thats only a few months ago - so you should have a strong case against them - was it a main dealer?Mike

Yes it was purchased from a main dealer. I have written to LRCS, explained the situation, and await their response.

By way of an update - main dealer from where I bought the car last November has told me today that a new dashboard frame is required. Not covered under extended warranty and have quoted £1,500 to fix. Have told dealer that this problem could not be expected to be picked up on a 20 minute test drive and it’s unreasonable to expect me to pay £1,500 just 4 months after buying the car. Dealer supposedly considering options but I’m not hopeful. Not sure what to do next. Very cheesed off.

Had the same fault with my 2012 model from new. Dealer renewed frame on second attempt and it has been fine for the last five years. I was about to hand the car back but I was really happy with the service provided at Harwoods in Tonbridge. I now use Harwoods at Edenbridge as Tonbridge dealer transferred to Lancasters - oh dear!moles

Does the 6 month rule not apply in this case? ie faults occurring within 6 months of purchase deemed to be present at purchase unless dealer can prove otherwise and should therefore be rectified by the dealer

Agreed. Time to get legal advice. A “letter before action” to the supplying dealer may get their thumb out of their ar_se.

Got a phone call from the dealer earlier today and I’m pleased to say the parts have been ordered and the problem will be fixed within a day or two. All as a gesture of goodwill. I wasn’t expecting that! So feeling pretty happy at the moment and hoping this will be the end of these issues. Looking forward to getting my car back! I will post an update in a couple of weeks but in the meantime many thanks for your help and advice. Much appreciated.

So after having the car back for a good few weeks now I'm pleased to say the issue has been resolved (a brand new dash was fitted) so I'm over the moon. However I have an issue with the two centre air vents. On one the dial is jammed in the open position. The other has no air coming from it all. Most likely caused when the new dash was being fitted. Minor in the scheme of things but any advice on how to fix would of course be greatly appreciated.
