Hi to all
i am new to this forum and live in South Africa. I am vthe owner of a 2004 D3 TD6 Now these cars have a reputation for spinining bearing and breaking crankshafts, Does this problem also occur here in the UK I am in London at the moment and repairing my son in law's Defender

So this seems to be a common problem with the V6 diesel.
In South Africa you pick up these cars dirt cheap as a replacement engine cost in the region of 100000 rand divide this by 17 and you got the pounds So not a cheap exercise

Think the V8 is the better way to go - Used price of V8 against oiler allows purchase of lots of petrol extra and when looked after the V8 seems unbustable. Hope I haven't put my foot in it now !
I got a V8, same age as the Oiler on offer but R30 000 cheaper and this money gets you a lot of extra fuel. Mine so far hasn't missed a beat, in fact I would say that the engine is the best part of the whole car.
