My experience with pirellis is only from sales
and a while ago, but the wear rates were poor.

Tyres

Had the Scorpian AT's on my Jeep Cherokee a few years ago and they were very poor milage wise. Not very good from the traction perspective also from what i remember.
Cheers.

Hi Vic,
I just got some Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tyres in 265/60R18.

They are heaps better than the originals - quieter, better ride, etc.

Not as aggressive tread as the General Grabber AT2s - but I would guess a lot quieter too.

I love them! Thumbs Up

Cheers,
Rob

Jonesy63,

Did you do a price comparison between GG AT2 and the Yokohamas? I could not find a brochure showing the tread depth of the Yokohamas in the 18" but othere sizes showed 12mm and 13mm tread depth which seems comparable to the AT2 which looks like 13mm.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,
The Yokohamas were about $20 ea more than the GG AT2s. I just looked at mine and I reckon the tread depth is only about 11mm. Oh well, I guess that makes them less "squirmy"!

Cheers,
Rob

Tyre selection - 18"

Have been considering trying to get my new Disco delivered with Cooper tyres - but have had different opinions on whether they will/will not offer any advantage over standard tyres as delivered - any comments...?

Version recommended (by Coopers at the 4WD drive show in Melbourne) was Cooper HT Plus 255/55R18 RE...comments ??

They are not really any better off road than the OEM Wranglers but will last longer.
If you are going for an off road improvement get them to put 17 inch wheels on instead then you have a greater choice of tyre.
I got the Coopers because the GG ATs had not landed and I could not wait any longer.
GG ATs or Yokahama ATs would be the go on 18 inch wheels.

Andycapper,

If you go with the Cooper HT+ then get the 265/60R18 with a 772mm OD (not the one Cooper suggested which has a 736mm OD). The OEM Goodyears are 763mm OD so you are also within the Vicroads max allowable incraase of 15mm. For offroading I'd be trying to increase my clearance rather than reduce it - hence my suggestion.

SKP on this forum also has these tyres fitted and did a big trip up north this year on the Tanami Tk and Gibb River Road without any punctures.

Agree with Chris. Thumbs Up
I have the oversize within rules and I suspect the only difference may be tread depth.

Andycapper - had the Yokohama AT's put on just 2 weeks ago....BRILLIANT!
Took the D3 down to Batemans Bay, haven't noticed any additional noise compared to the Wranglers. Teriiffic on the dirt and feel safe in the wet on the tarmac.

On top of all that..............they look GOOD! Very Happy Very Happy
