Changing Rear Discs - One or two observations |
|
So I've just tackled the rear discs and a pretty straightforward job it was thanks to Bodsy's Bible - Invaluable !!!!!
I tackled the driver's side first. Followed the instructions to set the EPB into service mode and extracted the fuse as instructed, no problems. Then it rained !!
So left the other side for today and decided to shuffle the car back out of the way.
Got a shock when the display said 'Low Fuel' and an amber triangle appeared. New I had half a tank so I'm guessing the fuse (F8?) has something to do with the fuel tank sensor although there seems to be a separate 5-amp fuse which covers this.
So be warned, you'll also probably see this warning.
Second obs. was use a small (key-ring?) torch to look through the hole for the adjuster when you put the new discs on. Mine were shiny and I couldn't see anything for the reflected light
Otherwise, many thanks again to Bodsy for a brilliant write-up Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

Hello
I am new to the disco owners club only got mine 2weeks ago any ways it got a squealing epb so got new shoes and tackled the drivers side first .shoes were in good nick but the handbrake lever was seized so new ones fitted struggled a bit being my first time but it's done passenger side tomorrow.
Couple of tips for anyone doing there's I jacked up the hub for better access . Put plenty anti seize grease on my tip after or during rebuild otherwise it's all over
And watch which way the bottom spreader fits had mine the wrong way so disc won't refit yes had strip and rebuild
Cheers Henda

Does anyone have the procedure for using the iid tool for doing a rear disc change? Or is it better not to use the iid tool instead?

I don't think the IID tool, will be able to change the brakes for you....
So I think you probably mean the service mode for mount or unmount for the epb.
You can do,it with or without unmou ting it via IID. Bodsys Brake Bible

Be nice if it would change them for me! But you are right, I meant in regards to the epb. Does service mode on the iid just keep it released and then after the discs are refitted, take it out of service mode? Does the epb then still need adjusted using the screw adjuster or does the computer magically sort it?

Bump - anyone?
Does the EPB need set again using the adjuster wheel after coming out of service mode or will it return to the same position?

I would have thought you needed to manually adjust every time you strip reassemble the brakes.

Yes I would agree if its a strip but what if its only a disc change? I will probably just jack up both sides at once and check the EPB once I have done the discs, just to be sure.

If you are fitting new rear discs it is essential that you follow "Bodsy's Bible" and adjust the pads accordingly.
It is unlikely that you will either get the old discs off or get the new ones on without! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Surely using the IID and setting to "service" will allow the discs to be removed? I suppose another question is if the adjuster wheel is to be used to release tension, should the IID tool not be used and the brakes just left in "normal" mode or whatever the wording is?

Finally got round to doing this.
First issue: When putting the EPB into "mount" mode, then switching off the ignition, the car would automatically apply the handbrake. So I had to go into the CCF and deactivate this feature. (Thanks to Pat @ Gap for his help) Mount mode on its own wasn't enough to get the discs off so in the end, I went back to latch mode (ie normal) and just used the adjuster wheel to release the shoes.
