Mad rev fluctuations in Park but only with a warmish engine!

OK the first issue has arisen with our TDV6. When I start it after its been sitting a short while it is fluctuating between 1200rpm and over 2000rpm every couple of seconds. When I put it in drive or blip the throttle the revs settle but at about 1200rpm so higher than usual.

This only happens when starting a warmish engine ie after the car has been left for up to an hour or so. It never does it from cold or if I restart it immediate after a drive. It otherwise performs fine. Any thoughts?

Is the temperature gauge doing anything strange as well? When mine did that it was the oil temperature sensor.

I haven't noticed any issues with it. What did yours do?

It’s a while ago now but from what I remember at the same times it was doing its “blipping the throttle” thing the temp gauge went down to zero.

There’s a similar thread here and also I’m sure someone (Disco Mikey?) put a video on YouTube.

I'll change the sensor anyway and let you know if it sorts it Smile

Sounds like oil temp sensor, quite common as it makes the car think it's -40 so changes the engine fuelling strategy and can cause the symptoms you have.
