D4 3.0l 8spd engine oil pump recommendations

Hi all,

I'm looking to start changing oil with the pump.

Would appreciate if you could drop few recommendations and what to look out for eg what's the recommended diameter and length of the pipe required in mm please?

Also is there much difference in 12v pumps vs manual?

Which oil is recommended for D4 3.0l 8spd & 103k mi?

Thanks

Rob

I found the vacuum pumps (manual) only need a few pumps to set up a syphon and then they drain the sump on their own. Fairly minimal effort and they come with piping. Oil is C1 grade meeting ford spec - plenty out there.

From Robbie:

You wouldn't want to go down the extraction tube anyway as narrow pipes take ages to draw out the oil. Attaching direct to the pipe makes it so much quicker.

The vacuum extraction point is 7.8mm OD. This happens to be the ID of the first extension tube on some Pela pumps, but clearly a longer length would be better. So grab a bit of tube with around 7mm ID and use it to join the widest of your Pela extensions to the extraction point.

Thumbs Up

Is this adaptor required for pump oil extraction from D4 pls?

Or will it be just fine to use small clamp to secure the tubes in place.

Mityvac MV7201 bought mine off of the snap on tool guy a decade or so ago, still works fine and I dread to think how many fluid changes its done on all sorts of kit, cars/brakes/boats.

Times move on and there may be better out there now, but if it broke I would be buying the same one again.

No but depending on what pump you get, you might need a short length of hose to join the pump hose to the tube

I am planning on doing the vacuum extraction approach to my D4 oil change - I have yet to look for it but can you tell me where the oil extraction pipe is? Is it obvious?

**found a thread with details**

Thumbs Up

Attach extraction tube, unscrew oil filter just few turns and oil cap off, few pumps and brew a cuppa and wait. Should take couple minutes to drain. Thanks

I've got the 9ltr Sealey one and it works spot on, I don't see why any other brand wouldn't work exactly the same.
