TC shudder or something else? |
|
Some slightly spirited driving today and noticed something new and quite concerning....
When coasting after hard acceleration the engine would settle and change up to a higher gear. When changing it felt like it didn't know what to do for a second and like it was holding the car back momentarily - this was definitely the gearbox and not the turbo changeover. It felt like a brake jabbing but was definitely the driveline and not brakes.
Then on the same trip this happened once - Accelerating normally, maybe 60-70% throttle. When it was about to change up to either 4th or 5th, there was a 1-1.5 second judder and loss of power then a notable thump before it took up drive and went on its way normally.
I'm assuming the two things are related and I'm thinking its maybe the torque converter but any advice appreciated on how to confirm it?

Milage?
Has the transmission oil been changed? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Not sure this is the TC. It just might be the gearbox trying to find a gear. Mines a new gearbox and I have had this a couple of times. When it was the TC there was a definite vibration like running over a cattle grid.
