Rear upper arms - how to?
Is there a how-to on the rear upper arms?
Having replaced the front lowers with Superpro bushes (happy so far) I took the D3 for MoT and was told (and shown) that the rear upper arm bushes aren't great.
I've bought the RRS arms from AF and they should arrive tomorrow so just looking to see any tips on getting them off.
Does cutting through the arms (where?) mean the body doesn't need a bit of a lift to get the bolts out?
Unfortunately I'm working on the driveway on axle stands, but do have plenty of stands and jacks, and sabre saws and angle grinders!
Many thanks in advance! Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

I did mine about 6 months ago, easy enough job with vehicle stands.
You basically have to remove the suspension bolts x3 and remove the control arm, being in Australia we don't have the same need to put salt on the roads and I have never had a problem of these suspension bolts getting stuck.
The only painful part is the forward bolt near the air compressor, it can be painful to get out. You need to remove the other 2 bolts first, so as to get a certain angle and dip on the control arm, to get the third bolt out.
The other thing is, you need to split the brake line as it's attached to the upper control arm and its impossible to remove the control arm without splitting the line.

Thanks.
Replacing all the rear brake lines at the same time so I can happily hack away at them! Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Yep.
Doing the work myself.
Did the front arms the other week but had to nip to the garage to get the metal sleeved poly bushes in the front of the lower arms...think it was a bit over 10tons needed to get them in.
JMack.
You're very welcome to pop by.
The parcel from AF has just arrived.
Hoping the postie will have the extra brake pipe bits when he comes.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Thanks for the invite, but that's me not long home.
Hope the job goes ok. At least you had a nice afternoon for starting it.

Was a lovely afternoon.
I got all the bolts out (except the one that's impeded by the compressor cover, but shouldn't be a problem.
A couple of the bolts were fairly seized (originals so no lube on them) but the c.28lb (home made) lump hammer did its job.
Couldn't find my brake pipe clamps and then went in for dinner so I haven't got them off but looking good for tomorrow.
Trouble is I'm seeing lots more jobs* I want to do that aren't required but would be desirable to get done.
Umm-ing and arr-ing whether to do the lower rear arms at the same time.
One very nice surprise is how well the graphite oil I used on the spare wheel winch seems to have done its job.
The rear lower arms will definitely look a bit odd being so old looking in amongst all the new components.
* rear bumper off and sort out rear PDC wiring and general rust
tow bar needs a coat or two of Hammerite
maybe a new rear propshaft
rivet in some reinforcement to the spare wheel plastic 'bumper'
change the diff fluids
clean and protect chassis
clean up and Hammerite the air reservoirBlack 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Oh, the rubber boot on one of the rear airbags has split VERY badly.
Is it likely I can retrieve the boot of a spare airbag I have and get it on the existing one without doing much more than taking out the bolt connecting it to the lower rear arm?Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
