Hi all,
Front end has started making a noise like I have AT tyres on (drone).
Power on-all ok
power off -drone and slight vibration through the steering wheel
Both front wheel bearings changed in the last 6 months using timken.
Rear prop changed last month thinking that was what was causing the drone(center bearing failed).
Any ideas ?

Funny thing - I have the same at about 55-65mph, had a LR teck with me and said he couldn't hear anything and blamed it on my Thule racks...
I was towing a couple days ago pick up my, new to me, Airstream and even towing it still made the low grown sound.
Past year, prefaced front wheel bearings, inner and outer tie rods....
good luck...

Let me know if you get to the bottom of it.
Good luck

Will do....
I tend to think its the front drive shat.....but the LR tech said it would happen all the time if it was either shaft...
I'll keep on driving her along. Replacing the air compressor this weekend as mine is all about given up. I just keep it in ride height and no errors but if I lower or raise the yellow light comes on and the compressor gets louder and louder and putters our... ding ding.. yellow light...

Do you get a slight vibration through steering while it's making "the noise"

Assuming you mean propshaft, then the tech is talking out of his , quite common on the older coil sprung landrovers to have rumbles on the over run that are down to worn prop slider section in the rear prop, on my series the noise was amazing!

I have a very similar issue at the moment.
There is a front end drumming/ grating noise under acceleration, when you lift off, it almost disappears but you can still hear it, just.
I suspected a wheel bearing, but couldn't find any movement. The only thing I could find was the nearside drive shaft had a bit more power than I was expecting.
Took it to my local Indy who also wasn't sure on the road, but when he got it up on the ramp, found excessive play in the shaft so a good job it was checked!
Awaiting parts now! Hoping this will cure the issue!

For drive shaft power, read play! Good old predictive text! Haven't worked out how to edit yet... Might need more forum seniority!

I have drive shaft play as well especially in stop and go traffic it can be annoying...like a clunk clunk if you get on it and then have to let off quick and then hit it again.. all under say 15mph..

So the drive shaft isn't causing the noise Leon?

Search (california stop) by Gap Diagnostics for the shunting clunk.
