Loss of power after long drive |
|
Hello fellow Discovery owners!
Im Arnold, live in Belgium and the proud owner of Disco 4 for over two years
My job is construction of gas pipelines in the country side, perfect fit for that kind of car
Lately I noticed a serious problem therefore Im relying on your experience and know how
D4 (facelift) was born in the year 2010 (2.7)
After a long period without problems, the dealer noticed a leaking seal of the gearbox.
Therefore it was refurbished and mounted again. (the amount of work was the same since it needed to be disasembled from the car anyway)
Once refited it drove like a charm, but after driving for more than 100 km on CC, the following appeared:
'transmission failure' and the car went into safe mode (no power at all)
Turning of the engine and restarting it solved the problem. But it appears spontaneously or not at all for 1000 km. It doesnt happen for a week, or sometimes 5 times a day
The dealer replaced the fuel filter, had the injector checked (where all ok) and is now proposing to replace the fuel pump, which costs a fortune. He also proposed to try an additive first.
They followed Land Rovers guide book based on the fault.
To be honest im a bit desperate since the fuel pump could be replaced, but after some time the fault error could reappear.
Anyone had experience with this?
cheers

fault codes say that there is insufficient pressure in the diesel injectors
They applied an additive which helped for 600km
now it appeared again...

I had an E-Class Merc from 2003 that would start first time from cold but then wouldn't start apart from with a liberal application of easy start spray down the intake. Turns out it was the injectors being worn and when cold not supplying enough fuel pressure for the ECU to start it when hot. It apparently over pressurised them when it was cold hence it would always start.
I replaced the injectors and sold the thing as it was so unreliable (I know I know, now I have a D3 and am looking for a D4 to buy).
Anyway it may be the injectors are worn.

The injectors were all tested and are in perfect working order.
Tommorow HPFP is going to be replaced, looks like its the only solution. Lets hope for it
