PayPal rant
Sold an item on eBay, 2 old crossflow engines. I wasn't allowed to list them without using PayPal as a payment option. That annoyed me, anyway. Sold items, buyer paid straight away, collected 2 days later, left positive feedback which in return I gave him. This was 20 days ago. PayPal claim they can now withhold your funds for "up to 21 days" incase of a dispute. Tried emailing them... 3 times. Not a reply. Tried ringing them. The automated guys response to every single reply "sorry I didn't catch that" hung up in frustration.
Has anyone else had this issue ? What do I do if they don't release the funds ? It seems that they are sitting on the funds to earn interest maybe. Even after they took their fee within seconds of the payment being made. Shocking. Jarrod

What people tend to to do is say in their advert x deposit reqd within 24 hrs by paypal and the rest upon collection, that way they keep ebay/paypal off their backs and dont have to pay such a large fee to paypal.
There must be an issue for them to be holding your money, Ive used them for about 14 yrs now and dont recall any major issues, the odd argument with buyers and or ebay but not paypal.

Got a whole heap of parts & gear to sell from the demise of Dark Bluie, not going to go anywhere near PayPal, just too much hassle. Cash or BACS.

If you are a new seller or it's an unusual sale Ie much larger than your normal sale oryou haven't listed anything for a while or you have poor feedback or history of disputes, then they may withhold payment for up to 21 days, its in the T&C.
Personally never had any issues with Paypal.==================================

Be wary of people paying by PayPal, and collecting in person
Been shafted before with a buyer claiming the item has not been posted... My D3 Build Thread

Obviously Paypal (owned by Ebay) is trying to increase their take on everything with the percentages they take by forcing people to use Paypal.
With Ebay percentage and then Paypal percentage , it certainly eats into how much you receive (just like Ubers 25 and 30% off their drivers).
Don't sell on there now as they won't allow me to list without Paypal, and i will not renew with Paypal as after 10 years they decided they wanted photo ID (licence/passport) and utility bill etc.
My take on why they want the photo id is for future use with face recognition advertising everywhere you go.
I wish they had some competition, can't wait for some company such as Alibaba to come.

That was my major concern. Hand over the goods for the buyer to dispute and get the money back. Seller loses both ways.Jarrod

I wondered why a couple of things I bought on line, using PayPal, didn't get sent for about four weeks! That could be the reason. Mantec sump guard.

Why not have people who collect sign a receipt?

I had same concern when I sold a couple of bikes. Buyers paid be pay pal straight away. I contacted them and refunded the amount and got cash on collection.
Was concerned about the 21 day thing as a new seller.Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

Having recently used Gumtree for the first time to sell a sofa, I was very impressed and it felt like 1/10th of the hassle of eBay. eBay for me now is to much like a marketplace, like Amazon. For good old fashioned selling stuff with cash on collection, try Gumtree D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
