Clutch Slip ? (UPDATED)

Wondered if I could pick you brains on this ......

I seem to be getting an occasional gear/clutch slip.Manual box

eg running at approx 1900 revs in 4 th , accelerate up ( not hard acceleration) engage clutch up to 5 th.5th engaged and run up to approx 2200 revs and it slips momentarily back to 2000 revs, then increases to approx 2400 back to 2200 before progressing up through the revs again.

It has happened same with 3 rd up to 4th .

I hope I have explained it well enough ?

That doesn't sound to me particularly like clutch slip DW, but do this test, if you drive up a hill in 5th or 6th, and can play tunes with the engine, ie it revs up excessively but road speed doesn't increase as you push the throttle down, That to me is clutch slip.

Ah, OK, I would recommend that you do the test I described just once, to minimise possible further damage,(if you have any hills round your way), if the clutch is slipping it will most definately show under those conditions, ie. when the engine is loaded up the most, and will also be accompanied by that awful burning smell from under the car. The sooner you find out whether it is slipping or not the better really, otherwise a worn out clutch plate will continue to eat into the flywheel and add to the repair costs considerably.(sorry if i'm encouraging egg sucking).... Good Luck.Hope its ok.

Shes booked in for another fault next week and will have them investigate.Unfortuneately theres no smell of clutch plate which would have had me heading for the dealers straight away. Only 2 Thousand klms left on my warranty aswell Rolling Eyes

Update

Problem has been getting steadily more pronounced.Took it to my dealers this afternoon and took their head mechanic for a spin.5 minutes and a few gear changes later , a clutch fault diagnosed.Needs a new clutch.

Warranty has expired by 1250 klms but I did report it a few thousand back and it was noted.I was supposed to be in for my persistent park brake/gear indicator fault on Thursday but had to cancel because of an important work appointment Rolling Eyes

Now booked in Monday. No way am I forking out for a new clutch with only 100 k klms on the clock. Evil or Very Mad

AND No way am I going to miss the meet this weekend , might end up getting a free ride back with AA though.
