Just got the D3.... should I upgrade?.....
Picked it up today and amazed just how good it is!
Thanks to really bad M25 traffic was a very very long 5hrs, 218 miles home and cost £45 in diesel (about 38ltrs) so not sure what that makes the MPG but with hours of stop start traffic as well as 70-80 with a couple of accidental 90 (ahem, on private roads of course), I didn't expect any different.
No lag from throttle at all, in fact, for such a heavy beast I was amazed by the way it pulled away from junctions!
Thing is, I'm so impressed with it I'm already considering selling my BMW 640D to buy a disco 4!... hmmmmmm.....Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE

Seems that's 26MPG.... under possible worst conditions possible for fuel ecomoney seems ok to me?
I've no doubt under ideal conditions that would easily be 33-36mpg.
Is that about right for these?Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE

If you work on roughly 20 around town 30 on any sort of decent run and general driving in the middle you wont be to far out.

now found how to display MPG so reset everything, full tank (and that is one very big tank to fill), so I will now drive it round our small village and see what it gets under these worst case conditions.Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE

Ignore the lieometer fuel consumption figures, it always over reads. After 210,000 miles I have averaged 26.5mpg.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Fingers crossed most that will be needed has been done.
2005, 121,000 miles & serviced every year, recently had gearbox fully redone with new torque converter, new turbo by Land Rover in 2010, recent new alternator, rear brakes and battery, belts done, just passed MOT with no advisories which has been the case for almost all of them.
I know that's no guarantee but it increases the odds of happier driving

Yesterday's one was before I found how to display that so based on actual fuel used/miles done, which considering the type of driving I was very happy with.
I'll do a manual calculation on next fill up as well to see how optimistic the on board read is Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE

At the last fill up before she died Dark Bluie averaged 26.99mpg at 165,170.
Lel, if you've got an iPhone or similar get the RoadTrip app, that tracks your mpg. Very useful to spot common problems like binding EPB or brake calipers.

If I could have afforded a D4 I'd have had 1 a few years ago. The 3.0 with the 8 speed box is some improvement over the D3 and the ealier D4.

My D4 2014 SDV6 averaged 32.5 mpg on two journeys of 900 and 1700 miles calculated brim to brim. Mixed roads and speeds but very little town driving. I basically ignore the computer and leave it showing 'miles to next fill' as a guide of when to visit the filling station. Always use super diesel. First LR was a 1970 series 2a 2.25 petrol. 18 mpg before fitting FWH and OD. Not much difference in mpg after that. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

The ultimate diesel is better and you do notice the difference in MPG.

I've worked out for my 15k a year (UK & Eurozone use), taking into account the mpg uplift and loyalty points rebate, posh diesel would cost me about £100 a year more. Switching away from Tesco stuff to BP and Esso regular diesel. Problem here is the 12ppl difference, which used to be about 8ppl.

Have you allowed for the vouchers from the Shell drivers club card in your calculations Del?
I've had nearly £100 of fuel vouchers so far this year.
