I was recommended this part from my indie ... a machined aluminium replacement part. I assumed it was make in U.K. But apparently it's made in Australia. It's a pretty expensive insurance policy but when I read thru the literature about this part it said it is recommended to replace it with the cam belts... not sure if that's an LR recommendation but seems like a reasonable idea to replace in plastic as a precaution ... the plastic part is pretty cheap.

That metal one is £400+
I'm sure you could get a new plastic one and one as a spare for less?

ISTR someone suggested changing it with the belts service, probably not a bad idea. Ok, not many failures like this but it's the risk vs consequences that would be considered.

Putting a new plastic one on at 100K miles wouldn't be a bad idea.
But belts + oil pump + metal water boss = £xxxx

The Disco will be transported to Holland within the next 2 weeks. By the Dutch RAC. We are now driving back in a new Opel Zafira provided by them.
Half of the luggage gets in but it 'll do.
Del what was your recent extra experience apart from the heads ?
The (good) italian dealer said when you want to take the heads off, you must take the body off. I thought I had read somewhere at the forum that it is not needed.

No idea re heads, anglefire's car didn't need that.. Sorry, mis read.
Apart from changing the part, basically me watching and offering coffee instead of technicival advice, I don't know anything more about what happened but car was fine and headed back to UK couple of days later.
My own experience of engine problems was my engine packing up in NW Norway last month, probably bearing shell rotation and internal bits munching on each other. Car scrapped.

How's the car doing? Hopefully she's home and getting the TLC she needs.

It is still on the way home. Expected delivery is Friday or next week. So up till now we are waiting to see what is really wrong.
I saw your car broke down in Norway. 2 years ago we went with this car to Senja and the Lofoten. Very nice and no problem at all.
